Various Choirs Lead to a Successful Choral
Under the direction, of Mr. Lloyd Hawthorne, the establishment of
four choirs, A Cappella, Girls Glee Club, Boys Chorus, and Girls
Chorus, marked an outstanding year at Thomas Jefferson.
In order to have perfect voice quality, the A Cappella choir
spends many hours of rehearsing. Some of the main functions are
singing at Civic Clubs and various organizations around Port Ar-
thur. Climaxing the year was A Cappella's winning a first division
in concert and sightreading at UIL Contest. A Cappella consists of
The Girls Glee Club, another favorite group, consists of 64 mem-
bers. They perform at some civic clubs, but their main programs
are the Christmas and Spring Concerts.
The Madrigal Singers, representing quartets and sextets, consists
of 15 members. These members participated in Solo and Ensemble
contest which they made a first division. During the year they per-
formed some 30-35 programs.
