Washington, June 18.—For-
ner President Wilson is in bet-
er health than he was a year
igo, it was learned Saturday,
from persons who are in daily
touch with him.
In spite of rumors from the
contrary from time to time the
former chief executive shows
surprisingly vitality and men-
tal alertness, it is said.
Every day, rain or clear, he
takes a long drive in his auto-
mobile, always accompanied
by Mrs. Wilson and one or two
friends. Always on one even-
ing and often two evening-* dur
ing the week he visits th«j iae-
atre, a relaxation for which he
demonstrated such a fondness
during the years he was in the
White House.
Never a man to receive many
callers, his engagement list
at the White House seldom con-
tained more than- three names,
ho has even more vivitors now.
They are ,of course, intimate
friends. Frequently he conver-
ges with them by the hour. In
addition to this he answers his
pt'itsonal teorrespondencot dic-
tating a number of letters each

JHEN you look at a
30x3% USCO at
$10.90 think back
___ for a minute as far
as you can reme mbcr U SCO.
The truth is that men have
always found USCO an out-
standing money's worth no
matter what its price.
Today at $10.90 USCO
maintains its established
standard of quality.
And because of the new
price, it sets a new index of
tire value.
Since last fall when USCO
established the $10.90
price range they have rcc-
t>gnized it a J a value
beyond any possible
comparison.
A still greater
money's worth
than even
USCO itself

Washington, June 15.—Re-
affirmation of President Hard-
ing's unalterable opposition to
the tariff bill's being displaced
for the soldier's was conveyed
officially to the Republican side
of the Senate to day by Sen
ator Lodge of Massachusetts,
Republican leader following
conference he had with the
President previously at the
White House.
Senator Lodge, while strongly
fovoring the soldier's bonus,
agreed with the President that
:t would be "pollitically" ana
economically unwise to side-
track th* tariff for <he bonus
A conference of Republican
Senators to consider the sit-
uation will probably be called
"(•on. Senator Lodge indicated.
He was confident the Pres.'s
wishes would I* complied with
by a majority of the Republican
side in spite of the insistence of
Senator McCumber, Chairman
of the Finance Committee
that th bonus displace the
tariff.
The tariff bill was tempor-
arily laid aside in the Senate
for the $298,000,000 navy ap-
nropriations bill after Senator
Poindexter. Republican of Wash
ington, acting chairman of the
Senate Naval Appropriations
Comittee, voiced a warning that
the measure must be passed by
the beginning of the next fis-
cal vear (July 1) or the navy
would be left entirely witnout
funds.
