Theme:
Celebrating 50 Years of Art Education in Texas A
Glance Back and the Path Forward
This special issue coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of the Texas Art Education
Association. To commemorate the golden anniversary of our organization, Trends, the
Journal of the Texas Art Education Association, seeks to raise the debate, discussion
and consciousness of all art educators through this special edition on past, current,
and future trends in the field of art education. Topics may include, but are not limited
to: creative expressionism, aesthetic education, discipline-based art education, visual
culture, material culture, art/o/graphy, social issues/social justice, place-based/
environmental art education, and technology. The editors seek philosophical, theo-
retical, and practice-based articles that address the broader issues and implications of
these movements, as well as, examples of ways art educators have/are implementing
trends in their communities, museums and art classrooms. In particular, the editors
are looking for real world examples at all levels that examine past and future move-
ments. Conversely, the editors are looking for solid articles that provide a conceptual
analysis about the impact of these movements in Texas classrooms, museums and/or
communities. We invite EC-12 practicing art teachers, community art-based activists,
university teacher educators, museum educators, graduate students, theoretical
scholars, and researchers to submit articles for possible publication.
Trends is a juried, professional journal published annually by the TAEA and is sent to
all members and to selected state and national officials. While the majority of authors
are from Texas, we accept articles from authors living in any state. Acceptance rate is
dependent upon number of submissions; in 2010 less than 40% of submissions were
published.
Deadline: Original manuscripts must be received by Friday, January 7, 2011, as MS
Word document attachments, electronically via email to Christina Bain at
bain@unt.edu. To facilitate the anonymous peer review process, author's name and
any identifying information should appear on a separate page. Manuscripts must be
formatted according to APA (6th Edition) standards. Photographic images are encour-
aged; please prepare these in digital (300 dpi.jpg) format and include copyright re-
lease.
