Tho Stophonvilla Empire states that aftor
having canvassed the question among the peo-
ple of Erath county it finds that the general
feeling amongst the voting classes is "that
thero must bo reformation in conventions
before they can represent the will of the peo-
ple." We would suggost to our cotompo-
r&ry that Democratic conventions wore never
intended to represent the "will of the poo-
plo" but the will of the Democrats. It is
in conventions that those who twliove In oer-
tain principle nro enabled to co-opor-ate
in tho soloction of suitable per-
sons to present their viows in
the legislative department of the govern-
ment. Were the majority of tho people in
Erath county Greonbackeri it is q'tite true
that no Democratic convention would repre-
sent the will of the people. The Democratic
party has no existence save through its
organisation and it seems a little remarka-
ble to us that any ono believing in tho princi-
ples of the party would think of abandoning
that organization. It is quite true that con-
trcntioni sometimes foil to represent the will
of the people but in such cases the

' and of this district opposed to conventions
we will still stand by our convictions as rep-
resented by the Democratic party.
