Felony prisoners nt .Tail Planned an
Escape.
A plan for a jail delivery was frus-
trated a lew days ago by a discovery
by iaior Keeton. Two bojs recent-
ly arrestee at Dalhart for the theft
of a trunk a-bout two months ago
from the union station were the
principals in the plan which was be-
ing carried Info effect when tho of-
ficers caught on to the scheme.
During ths day the prisoners are
allowed out in the run around and
at night all art' lockrd up lu the cells.
Some tiuiP ago it. was discovered that
bome of tho prisoners had managed
hy an Improvised saw t cut. a bar in
one of thp east windows of the jail.
The plan had probably been ln wait
till some rainy day whPn few people
wetc In sight and Ihpn to pull the
ly.ir aside and try lor escape. The
jail authorities discovered the work
before any of the prisoners made the
attempt however and 1hP severed
bar was repaired by means of a
wrought i fi i it pipe aiifi rivets.

plan of the two prisoners appears
to ltaH hern to go to bed early for
several nights and then when the
night fr the attempt came to lie
down on lop of the pages instead of
goinR to hod Inside the cells. They
figured thai they could deceive the
Jailor into thinking ihey had already
gone io bed and that thn Jailor
would lock the doors and leave them
out. They could then make their
attempt upon the window. While
thp chances of success of the means
planned by the prisoners were no
small as to make ih nhemfl nearly
impossible It is fortunate that the

Gives Increasing Prominence
The real work of the executive
committee of the ralo Duro Tirk
association did not. actually com-
mence until 2 o'clock p. m. Tttri-
d.iy because of the delayed arrival
of some of tp members from TulU
Canyon. Claude and Ooodnljht who
did not come In until the noon trains.
In the meantime those members
who were already In town spent
busy mornlnn laying out different
plans- and methods of oreanlzation
which were pre.ented at the full
meeting of the committee In the aft-
ernoon After a sumptuous dinner served
to the members of the committee
and their lad'es an the guests of the
Amarillo Chamber of Commerce the
committee got down to bujtlneps
promptly at 2 o'clock In the Cham-
ber of Commerce rooms. The fol-
lowing members were present : Hon.

On motion of Judge Trary Mayor
Haney was made permanent chair-
man of Ihe association and Vernon
Regga permanent secretary. It
seemed to the unanimous judgment.
of the committed that Captain C.
Goodnight of Goodnight hn made
permanent vice chairman although
Captain Goodnight protested stating
that while he was intensely Interest-
ed in thp movement and would do
all that be could still ho felt that
his Interests were such that ho could
not assume the duties; however
when It was explained to him that
he had been so long 'identified with
Ihe movement bad been so much
Interested In it In the past and there
was perhaps no other niBn In the
entire Panhandle country who had
the intimate and familiar knowl-
edge of the canyon he was forced to
reluctantly accept. Hon. L. T. Les-
