TROOP COMMITTEE MEANS
BETTER SCOUT PROGRESS.
MUCH interest has been manifested in
the Troop Committee, for which
provision has been specifically made
on all of the new blanks. It will
be recalled that at the last annual
meeting this suggestion was unani-
mously approved. The idea orig-
inated at a conference of Scout
Commissioners held last November,
and is based upon practical experi-
ence in different, parts of the coun-
try.
For the Scout Master applying
for the first time, the provision for
the Committee gives to National
Headquarters without delay the
definite recommendation of three
men connected with the institution
or organization in which the troop
is to be organized as to the qualifi-
cations of the applicant to serve as
a Scout Master, and will save the
expense and delay of writing to
such men for independent refer-
ences.
Furthermore, it gives the Scout
Master the advantage of definite
agreement of support from three
representative men. This will help
solve problems which arise from
time to time bearing upon the
welfare of the troop. It means
that the three members of the
Committee will share with the
Scout Master much of his responsibility.
Another very strong advantage of this
plan is the agreement on the part of the
Committee to promptly notify National
Headquarters if the Scout Master for any
reason discontinues to serve and, further,
to endeavor to find a suitable successor,
meanwhile having control of the troop
property. This will give adequate assur-
ance of permanency of the work of each
individual troop.
