Tun contractors on the St. Louis A San
1'rancisco Railroad have advertised for
tivo hundred men to po to work on t ho road
between Vinita and the Arkansas River.
There nre over 11(10 laborers employed on
the railroad work from Munzntiillo Mexico.
All receive more than $15 per month.
The Texas t 8t. Louis Railroad is graded
to Oatesvillo and the surveying corps un-
der Major Courtney nre at t.nnipasiis.
Five new coaches designed for use on tha
Sunset route arrived at Houston. Two of
these arc rejiulur coaches two combination
sleeping and drawing and one a sleeper.
They were all built in the shops of the
l'ullmnn Company and aro as handsome
specimens of tlieir kind as one would wish
to see.
The Texas it St. Louis Railway Company
are at work on their Dalian branch lcuving
the main line tit Mt. Heasunt. The grading
is finished through two counties via Mt.
Vernon and Sulphur Springs.
There were 31)5350 pieces of immigrants'
baggage which passed through the buggnge-
room ut Castle Garden in ltwl. This does
not include tho small pieces of baggage
bedding etc. carried in the hands of im-
migrants. The Southern Pacific Railroad on its way
from New Orleans to the golden shore runs
more than 3l miles through Arizona Ter-
ritory of which little is known except that
it has U.'i.Wlti 8'iure miles of area ana 40441
population.
Kastern capitalists are investigating the
feasibility ofa prospective railroad from
Jacksonport or some point n the Iron
Mountain Road nenrthere to Vinita. These
letters breathe a spirit of enrneslness. The
road ll built will pass through Independ-
ence Stone Scurry Newton Hoone Car-
roll Madison Washington and Ronton.
This route penetrates 0110 ni the best
timbered regions in tlie State. The motin-
laintops and benches urn covered with
pine oak cherry and walnut. It would
also cross the extensive marble field of New
ton. Resides the timber and marble the
country is ru n in agricultural productions.
