The Rambler
Wesleyan has a homecoming
game this year, an exhibition
baseball game.against East Texas
Baptist University Oct. 29 at 1:30
p.m. at Sycamore Park, instead
of the usual basketball game. .
Why baseball? More
Wesleyan students seem to come
to baseball games at Wesleyan,
and they are a successful team.
This decision is also, better for
scheduling.
Quentin McGown, director of
alumni and constituency rela-
tions said he is very optimistic
about this year's homecoming
and prospective turnout for the
game. He predicts that this year
more students will turn out for
all the events because the num-
ber of students attending home-
coming events lias steadily in-
creased every year
"I want to build on last year
and try to get more people to
stay on camptis. I also want to
bring people back (Wesleyan
Alumni)." To make this year's
homecoming successful, he
hopes to have more student in-
volvement.
Nicole Belford, student gov-
ernment president, and one of
many active planners of this
year's homecoming, said she
agrees with McGown. "Baseball
is a popular sport here, and we
don't have football," she said.
She also hopes that more people
will remain on campus for this
year's events, especially the com-
muters.

"Winning the Golden Shears
Award was a very nice surprise.
I feel that it tells you that: hard
work pays. It doesn't go unno-
ticed. It also says to roe that you
don't get there by yourself.
Friends are important and rec-
derful feeling," King said.
The Guardians of the Golden
Shears Organization was started
in 1938 by the Rambler to honor
students who were actively in-
volved on campus while main-
taining a high academic stan-
dard.
The recipients are chosen
from a committee comprised of
previous Golden Shears recipi-
ents. Approximately eight stu-
dents are chosen each semester.
