GIRL'S SEGRET.
"Aunt Cassic came to visit us and she
saw I was nervous, had the fidgets all the
time, and she asked me many questions,
and finally said, ' Why, you dear, sweet girl,
it's not your temper that's bad, it's your
constitution that's out of kilter. You sit
right down now and write a letter to Dr.
Pierce, at Buffalo, N. Y., tell him all your
symptoms'—and so I did. It wasn't long
before I had a long reply, carefully going
over my case and telling ine just what to
do. I date my present happiness and little
Cupid's return to the very day I sat down
to write that letter to Dr. Pierce, for his
advice was so good and his ' Favorite Pre-
scription ' worked such a complete change
in me that now my former cheerfulness
and good health—not to say anything of
good looks—ate restored to me. I have
summoned Tom back to my side and we
are to be married in June."
The proprietors and makers of Doctor
Pierce's Favorite Prescription now feel
fully warranted in offering lo pav $500 for
any case of I.eucorrhea, Female Weakness,
Prolapsus, or Falling of the Womb, which
they cannot cure. All they ask is a fair
and reasonable trial of their means of cure.
It is natural that a woman who has been
cured of womanly disease by "Favorite
Prescription" should believe that it will
cure others. It is natural too that she
should recommend to other women the
medicine which has cured her. It is
such commendation which has made the
name of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescrip-
tion a household word for the past thirty-
eight years.

That Is Feverish, Fretty, Constipated,
Colicky. Don't Do It. GlveThemThal
Pure, Safe, Sweet, Gentle and Pala«
table Baby Remedy, LAXAKOLA.
It does not grlpo or lrrltnto. It Is a sure
laxative, and contains valuable tonic prop-
erties which tone up the entire system.
A few drops can be given with safety to
very young babies to relieve colic by ex-
pelling the wind nnd gas. It will aid di-
gestion, relieve restlessness, assist nature
and Induce sleep.
For constipation, simple fevers, coated
tongue, or any infantile troubles arising
from a disordered condition of the stom-
ach, It Is Invaluable. My baby, 4 months
old, was sick and teething. I tried a good
many things, but nothing seemed to relieve
him.
The doctor said It was inflammntlon of
the bowels, nnd that I would never pull
him through—perhaps, If he was under his
care. When he was getting worse I
stopped giving him his medicine, as he
could keep nothing on his stomach. He
used to scream with colic. I did not know
what It was to close my eyes day or night.
A few drops of LAXAKOLA relieved him.
I gate it to him a few times, nnd It worked
like n ehnrm. nnd he now rests pretty fnir
nil night. He Is n great deal better look-
lug baby since I gave him LAXAKOLA.

Phonetio Laziness.
A paragraph on "phonetic lazi-
ness" in the London Daily Chron-
icle recently brought out the ec-
centric pronunciation of some of
:he curious place names that adorn
the map of England. Some forms
are unfamiliar and may help trav-
elers in out-of-the-way places in
that happy land. According to ths
Chronicle these are the local pro-
nunciations: Rhtidbaxton is Rib-
5on, Woodmancote is Udden-
mucket, Sawbridge-worth is Sap-
er, Churchrlown is Chosen, Sandi-
acre is Ser.jiker, Little Urswick is
Lilosik, Aspatria is S'pethry, St.
Osith is Toosy, Chaddenwyche is
Charnagc, Happizburgh is Haze-
boro, Salt Fleetby is Sollaby, Al-
mondesbury is Amesbury, Con-
fresbury i.s Coomsbury. Of places
better known Ulverstone is Oost'n
and Hurst:nonce?.ux llorsemoun-
ces. It is a safe rule apparently in
Britain never to try to pronounce
a name according to the spelling.

New Eieo'rio Heating Device.
Among the notable recent Ger-
man inventions in the field of ap-
plied science is an electric resist-
ance material for heating purposes
to which has been given the name
"kryptol." The exact method of
its preparation and the propor-
tions of its ingredients employed
are not disclosed by the specifica-
tions of its paent, but it is a mix-
ture of graphite, carborundum and
clav so combined as to form a
loose granular mass or powder of
four grades or degrees of coarse-
ness.
Has Harnessed the Sun.
At Los Angeles, Cah, the exper-
iment has been tried of using the
heat of the sun to create power
and to heat water for domestic
purposes. At an ostrich farm
near the city a solar motor is in
operation every sunny day, or
about 300 in a year, and pumps
1400 gallons in a minute. Solar
heaters are placed on the roofs of
houses and connected with water
pipes. One heater will supply the
water for domestic purposes for
an ordinary family. j
