NEW SYmeM
TAKEPIACESOON
Plenty of Temporary
Supply If Care Is
Exercised
After six months of effort, set
backs and handicaps the city offi-
cials are now about to prepare a wel-
comed note to the public sf Mcxia
saying "Use all the water you want."
That is not a reality now, but will
be in a short time.
The city's new 6,000,000 gallon
water reservoir is standing five feet
in water and three wells are being
pumped into it, while two other good
wells of the city's new water farm
are being pumped into the Magnolia
Petroleum company's water reser-
voir, from where it is being sup-
plied to the consumers of Mexia
through a temporary line.
As soon as the big reservoir is
filled up the new mains will be tried
out and the city reservoir, on South
Belknap, will be fliled with three
days supply for the city and the
pressure sent up to the capacity of
the mains of the city.
It is then that the city dads will
invite the owners of dead grass and
dying trees to "use all you want"
for the new water system will have
been completed and the city sup-
plied with a bountiful supply of fine
water from the city's own perma-
nent water source.
Then the springs of seven miles
away, which so faithfully supplied
the city for years, only to fail be-
cause of growth of the city and un-
usually dry year, will be kept for
an emergency supply. It may be that
this source can be offered tempoi--
arily to some neighboring commun-
ity, suffering for the lack of water.
For several days all homes of the
city have been able to get water
and city officials hope that never
again will the inside of the mains
get so dry. With careful lue for a
few more days the water supply
will be sufficient until the abundant
supply can be turned on and grass
ancl trees refreshed.
The city has lost in revenue from
water because there hns been no
water to sell. Only the minimum
has been collected. With plenty of
water the city hopes to encourage
the use of water and the growing
of trees and grass. A reduced charge
for water is the policy of the admin-
istration as soon as such can be
worked out.
With the new plant completed an
emergency warrant to the city voters
will be asked to pay for it by ap-
proving $125,000 in water works
bonds. This money will pay for the
reservoirs, two of them, the plant
and mains and will give about $25,-
000 for new mair.s and meters in-
side of the city.

to have even a larger gathering next
year.
Much comment is heard concerning
the new headlight law in Texas,
which becomes effective September
1. Friends of the new statute urge
that if the new law saves only one
life or one accident that it will be
worth while, and that it is workable
and enforceable is set forth in a
recent statement by C. R. Granbeiry,
chief of the headlight division of
the state highway department.
There are approximately 1100 state
headlight testing stations in Texas
and plans have been laid for the
best possible enforcement of the law,
he declares.

this precinct in Limestone connty,
while practically all garages and all
