through our ell jr th only old settled town
by th way that Ik road baa touched

by Coagr sad wblcb I destined to be
th priucipal artery of commerce aad travel
between the Atlautlo and Pacific it is
confidently believed will cross I lie C'eulral

effort lo accomplish this end nud a it is
the a.tlural and always-talked -of crossing
of these two roads there is hardly a doubt
that Ihey will succeed.
Dallas also is the acknowledged hetd
of navigation of Ibe Trinity river. Boats
have already come up to this point and
an effort is now being made iu the Legis-
lature of our Slate 10 incorporate a Com-
pany which proposos lo place the river in

run boats of good site ber from six to
eight mouths in th year.

jacent counties at we suppose from 'l
to $li or ?8 per acre for unimproved and
at lioni $0 lo 40 or f 50 for improved
places.
We have plenty of fencing and fire wood
along all tlio rivers and creeks sufTicicnl
for the uses of generations yet unborn and
large timber for building purposes; but
our principal building lumber Is brought
from Kant Texas a distance of from 100 to
150 miles at which distauco can be found
the beat of bnrd pine and Steam Mills in
abundance. Pine lumber is generally de
livered hero nt from St to $1J per hundred
in the summer but in the winter when the
muds are bad. it comes up higher. For
the past twelve months owing to the in-
creased domunil aud bad roads caused by
wet weather it has run up to nearly dou-
ble these figures.
The Wheat of this region is acknowledged
(0 be e.)iiul if not superior to most any

In conclusion we would say to our cor-

peoplo we want to see came among ut
men of means and others of energy ana
enterprise and who are willing to work.

To the Billion or the Uallas lli-mM :
In answer to many inquiries in refer-
ence lo tho cattle poiut for the coming sea-
ton I can safely ay that Willi all the im
ducemculs held out by other road9 and
points Abilene still stands in tho useu-
dancy. It is useless to speak of the noto-
riety of that plaoo as a cattle market it
is loo well known and the new rocoin-
memled places will be mere Bhadows as
shipping points when ootnpared to it. The
ntil rards are under repair and being
thnrnuirlilv renovated while a now eot of
yards aro about to bo built. This read will
do as well so far ns rates are concerned as
any competing- road.
The Atlantic and Pacifio roads are ad-
toi tising extensively in Texas nud proffer
to do something to induco the trade which
shall be. and by somo is considered moral
ly impossible. Besides that is not the
country iu which to hold cattle j the range
is not what is desired and in the summer
the tl ics are so bnd that cattle Will reduce
iuetcad of improving in flesh.
The Atchison Topcka and Santa Fe
Railroad which will probably be finished
to the neighborhood of thd oat tle trail hy
June 1st will be a splendid point for the
grazing of cnttlo being superior range fo
that of Abilene. But it will need a year
or two standing to nuke it a good trading
poiut for cattle. Thorf is no queston iu
ny mind but that in about two years the
end of that road and in the lection of
country they design locating a point this
year will be a permament cattle point
it being perfeotly adapted to that one
thing.
They seem tn think at Schuyler (a point
West of Omaha on tho U. P. HonJ) that
drovers are foolish enough to listen to in-
ducements to take a new trail avoid eve-
ry other point leaving tho old route they
all know so well; endanger themselves
among Indians ; leave a market w litis they
ar certain of sales and go lo a new place
of which they know nothing and cannot
possibly expect to realite additional profit
enough to pay for the difference in driving.
I hope nons of them will be humbugged into
that thing.
No Texas cattle on th. market yet. Cat-
