trying to enact a law prohibiting their

of Texas raised staple was sold in
Houston last week at 30 cents per
pound. The raising of high olass cigar
stock in Texas is a new industry and
it is claimed that nowhere else in the
United States can so high-priced to-
bacco be raised. Fort Worth Gaz-
ette. Miss Bessie Warner of Houston has
been selected as sponsor for the Con-
federate Veterans of this division at
the reunion at Charleston S. C from
May 10 to 13. Among other young la-
dies she has selected for her maids of
honor Miss Carlos Mateer of Flatonia
and Miss Addiebella Allen of San An-

The 6 year old son of Mr. W. H.
Russell of Coppell Tarrant county
met with a serious accident. He was
caught by a belt in the mill at that
place and was terribly bruised. His
right arm was broken just below the
shoulder and lower arm and his hand
were terribly lacerated the flesh be-
ing stripped off a great portion of it.

hopes on the proposed Columbus &
Northern railroad which will have its
terminus at Deming. Work on tbe

New Mexico with a proper eye to
business has refunded her territorial
indebtedness which was drawing six
per cent interest into bonds now bear-
ing four per cent thus reducing her
accumulating interest by one third cer-
tainly a most desirable thing for a
territory. Ex.
Col. Stotsenburg a brave officer who
was killed at Manila April 23 while
leading a charge was a lieutenant at
Ft. Stanton some twelve or thirteen
years ago and was well known to many
old residents of southern New Mexico.
He was related by marriage to the J. J.
Dolan family.
