J. W. Eans assistant general man-
ager of the Texas and Pacific railway
returned from a sight-seeing trip over
the White Oaica road this morning.
The principal and objective points on
the routa b-iDg Cloudcroft and Alamo-
gordo Capitan was overlooked on aa-
count of .Mr. Evans's desire to reaoh
El Paso this morning.
In speaking of the journey and im-
pressions gained in conversation he
said amonj; other things: ' -Cloudcroft
is the most delightful place I have yet
visited in this country. Healthful in-
vigorating picturesque and marvelous
in floenio beauty briefly these are my
sentiments in describing tne Deauuiui
nliiiiA. The mechanical engineering is
also a most scientific pleoe of modern
railroading. . . .

steadilv." The assistant general man

length of main bridge 2230 feet; ex-
treme height of towers to support the
cantilever 176 feet; clear height of
span above high water 85 feet; depth
of foundation below river bei 70 feet:
depth of water at low water 100 ftet.

Line For the Loss Of Her Child's
The district court took up yesterday
the civil suit of Catarlna Ryes vs. the
El Paso Southern railroad (Sierra
Madre line) for damages. The suit is
brought on behalf of a little Mexican
child living Id Ctalbuahuita near the
railroad who bad bis hand cut off by a
train. His mother has brought two
suits one in his name for his injuries
ana one in her own.
Patterson and Wallace appear for
the plaintiff and Patterson and Buckler
for the railroad company.

"I had often heard of the way en-
fine and train men were thrown into
jail in Mexico whenever an accident
occurred" said a Mexican Central fire-
man the other day "and I must confess
I felt rather uncomfortable at the idea
of accepting a job down there. There-
fore I was very much surprised at what
I saw a few weeks ago.
'In the yards at Chihuahua the
switch engine ran over and killed a
Mexican. When I eaw it I was just
wondering wta'. the engineer and fire-
man would do and what could happen
to them. From what I -had always
heard I fully expected to see them
both thrown into jail and held for
many weeks at the very least.
To my surprise inside of three
hours they were back to work and no-
thing more was said about it. Had
this haopened just across the state line
ia Coabuila D J ran go or further down
there would probably have been a dif-
ferent story to tell."
Shippers Of Mules And Horses Have
Now Thirty Days To Return In
stead Of Twenty-Five
The following bulletin of interest to
shippers has been posted at the G. H.
& S. A. by Supt. Martin.
"It has been agreed to by all lines in
Texas to increase the limit for return
of shippers in charge of horses or
mules to thirty instead of twenty-five
days. The printed live stock contracts
in use contain printed limit of twenty-
five days on horses and mules. Agents
in Texas have been instructed to erase
twenty-five and insert thirty days in
writing. You will honor such con-
tracts when amended by agents."
