A report comes from Austin
that Monta Moore of Cameron
will run for attorney general
since Looney has withdrawn.
Frank Putman says the Bailey
forces are on the run. Maybe
they are just trying to get away
from the putrid atmosphere that
envelopes Frank.

Capt. Davie, late tax commis-
sioner, has been appointed Jas
secretary of state and Secretary
of State Dashiell has been tran-
ferred to the tax department.
Capt^Davie is well known in
Mexia.
Chairman Ciarden has called
the state democratic executive
committee to meet in* Fort Worth
on the 16th of this month to fill-
vacancies on the committee and
seleca the place toy holding the
next state convention.
The efforts of the colored peo-
ple to benefit their race by edu-
cation and character clubs should
meet with the endorsement of all
white people. We call attention
to the communication in this issue
on the subject, and also to the
fact that these people are en-
deavoring to establish a college
in Mexia for colored people. This
would be a benfit to the town and
we hope the promoters will be
successful in the undertaking.
Our experience as a newspa
per writer, says a Western journ-
alist is this; "Only one person in
100 will express any appreciation
of the pleasant things said about
them, wiiile ninety-nine out of
every hundred will make a fuss
about the things that don't suit
them." That is about the ex-
perience of every newspaper
worker the world over. From
one year's end to another he sel-
dom hears a word of comendation
but he gets as much criticism as
six mules could haul down hill.
