The Phoenix Chapter sponsored its annual holiday luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel with
over 160 persons in attendance including senior citizen friends from Memorial Towers. Guests
were taken on a trip to the famous Wrigley Mansion overlooking metropolitan Phoenix....The chap-
ter gave twenty-two bookships to needy children entering high school and presented funds to the
Welfare and Student Aid Funds of twelve elementary schools and three high schools. Two-thousand-
ifty dollars were donated for the bookships and the schools....The Trends and Services Commit-
tee sponsored a December birthday party and Christmas treats for the patients at South Mountain
Manor Nursing Home....February 25, 1979 is Link Night at Greyhound Park. At this annual event,
Links, Connecting Links, Heir-O-Links and friends gather for dinner. The feature race is dedi-
cated to The Links who are honored by the Greyhound Foundation for their charitable work in the
community.
The San Diego Chapter conducted a conference for high school girls titled "Careers: Not for Men
Only" onSaturday, November 11 at the Holiday Inn in Mission Valley. More than 80 girls register-
ed for the one-day seminar. Nine mothers accompanied their daughters to the meeting and were
rewarded with bouquets of Fall flowers. Each conferee was given a certificate of attendance....

ward to hosting the Southern California Area Cluster Workshop in October, 1979.
The San Fernando Valley Chapter is finalizing plans for its annual fund-raiser, "Disco '79,"
to be held February 24, 1979 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel....The chapter received citations
from the Los Angeles Urban League and the Boy Scouts of America for ;500 donations to each or-
ganization.
The San Francisco Chapter invites you to join them for a reception and private showing of the
Treasures of Tutankhamen at the De Young Museum, September 29, 1979 from 9 to 11 p.m. This will
be the last opportunity to see these Egyptian Art Treasures in the United States....Link Andra
and Connecting Link Michael LeNoir hosted the chapter Christmas party....The International Trends
and Services Committee arranged, as an educational-social project, a visit to the Belgium Consu-
late. The Honorable Counsul-General and Mrs. Rene Phinster graciously hosted the affair. Films,
followed by a question and answer session with the Counsul-General, enriched members' and their
escorts' working knowledge of Belgium. An extensive display of African Art, collected during
the Counsul-General's tours of duty in African countries, was educational and inspirational.

he Seattle Chapter is preparing for the upcomingexhibitionof the Afro-American Tradition in
the Decorative Arts. A workshop was held in November to acquaint the schools, community organ-
izations, city and state officials and the news media with the exhibit. Guest speakers includ-
ed Dr. John M. Vlach, Professor of Anthropology, University of Texas and curator of the exhibit;
r. Harvey West, curator of the Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington; and Link Frances
:ing, Cleveland Chapter....At the chapter's holiday dinner party attended by 100 Links and guests,
free-will donation was accepted from its members for the building fund of the Odessa Brown
Children's Clinic. The clinic serves children of parents who do not have the means to pay for
medical care. Link Toby Burton is co-chairperson of the building fund and Link Blanch Lavizzo,
ND, is the clinic's medical director....Link Marion Sutherland chaired the Volunteers/Clubs and
Organizations Committee for the 2nd annual United Negro College Fund Radiothon. Many Seattle
Chapter Links participate in this project.
The Spokane Chapter, in conjunction with Whitworth College, invited thirty-three high school
seniors to visit and explore the possibilities of attending a private college. The students
met with people from Admissions and the Minority Affairs Officer as well as visited classes.
Thc: will visit eastern Washington University in February.

DALLAS IAr'TR - Link Barbara Watkins has received her Masters from Southern Methodist Univer-
sity and has been appointed Director of Development, Public Sector, Dallas Visiting Nurses Asso-
ciation....Link Bobbie Lander is the new president of the Dallas Urban League Guild....Link Julia
K. Jordan was promoted to Assistant Director of Student Affairs for the Dallas Independent School
District. Decisions for 145 thousand students are made through her office....Link Excella Dillard
is chairman of the Board of Directors of Alpha Xi Omega Human Resources AKAdemy, Inc., a Child
Development and Family Outreach Center sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority under the Title
20 program....Link Wilma and Connecting Link W. A. Hembr, MD, gave their dauther, Karen, in
marriage to Dr. William Banks during a beautiful ceremony in August. The Banks now live in Oak-
land, California....Link Elaine P. Lockley, PhD, is president of a newly formed corporation known
as the Institute for Educational Research and Development, Inc. Its purpose is to conduct basic
and applied educational research ....Link Jimmy Brashear has been invited to be a member of the
Advisory Board for Link Lockley's corporation. Link Brashear is also a member of the Executive
Board of the Dallas Independent School District School Volunteers. The Early Childhood Develop-
ment Center at the Nolan Estes Education Plaza was recently named in her honor.
