Renovations are complete the Longhorn club lo-
cated on West Fort Hood is ready to open the doors
of its new cafe.
“The new ‘Longhorn Salon and Cafe’ has been
renovated and will hold its grand opening June 26 at
lunch time” said William G. Ginac Morale Welfare
and Recreation’s chief community operations divi-
sion.
“The club was simply known as the Longhorn
but with the $200000 renovation to the club the name
changed to let the public know the club offers food.
The renovations will allow customers access to a
better food program” he said.
The kitchen was rebuilt with a cafeteria or buf-
fet type line allowing patrons a fast food type of en-
vironment. The club will serve lunch Monday-Fri-
day and dinner Wednesday-Friday. It will also fea-
ture lunch and dinner specials Ginac said.
“The renovations also allow the club the oppor-
tunity to accommodate small parties or functions”
he said.
“We have the capacity to reserve a room for 50
to 75 people” said Mary Lou Head club manager.
“The club’s theme is county and western so the
menu follows that theme” Ginac said.
“We feature a ‘dry run hickory smoke barbe-
cue.’ This type of barbecue is normally found in the
southeast around Georgia and Alabama” he said.
“The dinner menu will feature a ‘longhorn whis

key’ steak.”
According to Ginac the club management wanted
to distinguish its fare from the other barbecue restau-
rants in the area.
It opted for a southeastern barbecue instead of
the traditional Texmex or Texan style barbecue.
Head said the renovations were not limited to
the club’s kitchen and dining room.
“The club walls have colorful country and west-
ern murals. The club floor will look like a Texas road-
way” she said. “We will have a statue of a five foot
armadillo with horns near the door.”
“That’s not all. I think the greatest thing is the
wall mural painted like a 1957 Chevy truck” she
added.
“A fender will be attached to the mural where
customers can get condiments and beverages. This will
accent the beverage area.”
“It’ll look like you’re taking your beverage off
the bed of a truck” Ginac said.
The club’s new design offers customers the op-
portunity to have live country and western entertain-
ment on Friday nights Head said.
After the club has opened the West Fort Hood
Club will close.
“But don’t worry! The Longhorn Club will still
offer the famous West Fort Hood Schnitzel on Thurs-
days” Ginac said.
“We hope customers will find Longhorn a fun
and exciting place. It will be able to provide the same
high quality meals reasonable prices and service that
is found at other restaurants” he said.
