AN APPEAL FOR CO-OPERATION
FROM SECRETARY 25000 CLUB
In the campaign now on for 500
new members of the Abilene 25000
Club the committee Is meeting with
remarkable success when the small
amount of time that they Have neeh
able to put in is considered. Those of
our citizens however who are not
members of the Club should not wait
for a personal call from the commit-
tee but do like so many others have
done phone your name to tne sec-
retary to be em oiled on the member-
ship list.
Notwithstanding the fact that a full
report of the receipts and expenditures
have been mndo to the club from time
to time and bamp given due publicity
in the dally press of Abilene show-
ing .exactly the amounts collected and
especially how expended jet occa-
sionally the committee comes across
a citizen who has nn erroneous Idea
about how the woik Js managed and
thinks that a considerable part of the
funds Js used to pay the expenses of
the secretary and others in making
trips around the country The facts
are as have boen stated and shown
In the report published the secretary's
expenses in making visits to commer-
cial club meetings aro not borne by
the Abilene 25000 Club ntall. This
erroneous Idea need not pievall in
the mind of any one and would not if
onr citizenship generally would make
It a point to attend the club meetings
and hear the reports of the officers
which are made In detail on tho first
Monday night of each mouth In the
regular monthly meetings.
The club may at times make mis-
takes as all Unman organizations do
but Ihere Is one thing that can bo re-
lied upon with ahholute ceitninty and
that is that the Abilene- 23000 Club
conducts its affairs on a strictly bus-
iness bnsls In every pdrtlouiav and the
efforts of the directors and members
who have been attending legulnrly
during tho past three years has boen
to make -every dollar o Just as far as
possible and If our people geneially
will take time to come to tho meet-
ings and get themselves in touch with
the detail work of the club and learn
bow witch .good has been done for Ab-
ilene on the limited finances hereto-
fore at our disposal the chances are
that they will find yery little to con-
demn hut a great de"al to commend.
At any Vate it is a democratic organ-
ization in which ejery member has a
voice and vote and a free expression
Is Invited from all members as to their
ideas for improvement in the methods
employed or any suggestion that they
may have to offer.
Town building Js not one man's job
but the responsibility rests upon the
shouldeis of. each and every citizen.
Every man who lays down on h(a part
of the work makes the load that much
heavier for the liberal minded and
public spirited citizen who feels a
pride Jn h)s local comunlty and puts
himself out to work for -Its advance
ment.
The past Is recorded on tho pages
or Abllene's history the future can
only be approximated -while the pres-
ent Is with us now "and It behooves
eery cltl.en of Abilene to decide as
to what he will da to help shape tho
futme for his town and community
to make it what it should be.
Xa matter what his means -or how
limited his finances his co-operation
dud assistance be It ever bo small an
amount will causo tho members -who
are beating tho brunt of this work to
feel that they aro appreclatd and per-
ahps stimulate those who havo more
able than yourself to fnll in line and
do their duty.
