Of the Food Production Act. the Uni

Is purchasing seed of corn Borghums
cotton and peanuts to be sold for cash
at cost to farmers in sections of Texns

exlst
Tho drought of last summer dam-
aged crops so severely hi south and
southwest Texas as to result in an
actual shortage of homegrown seed
for planting the coming spring. The
I'nlted States Department of Agricul-
ture is endeavoring to relievo the bp-
rtous seed situation to the fullest ex
tent possible by purchasing seed of
tho crop3 previously mentioned and
making them available for cash at
co.st to communities where such short-
ages occur. Although the law makes
it necessary to sell tho seed for cash.
It Is believed that this action by tho
department will result In great sav-
ing to many farmers by making seed
avnllablo -whore needed and thereby
stabilizing the market price of seeds
throughout the sections where the
seed shortage Is most acute.
The buying and selling of seed in
Txa6 by the United States Depart-
ment of Agriculture is under tho di-
rect supervision locally of Us repre-
sentatlve Mr. Frank Clarke whose
headquarters are at Waco. Texas The
authorities of the Extension Service
of the Texas Agricultural and Mech
anical College and Experiment sta
Hon are cooperating with Mr. Clnrk
in the closest manner not only In 14
eating and buying seed but In arrang-
ing for lta handling and sale.
While Insufficient frtnds are avail-
able to purchase seeds to meet the
