Vice President Wheeler made a
speech at the St. Lawrence county
(N. Y.) fair last week, in which he
declined to enlarge upon agriculture
or to touch upon finance. Speaking
of the promise of returning ptospei-

hard as it is, remains, that we can
never icgain our old-lime prosperity
without a return to the old paths.
We must have soberer views of life.
We cannot regain this prosperity
until after the stronger portion of
our people become willing, through
patience and manly toil in the uselul
and productive arts of life, to earn
every dollar they receive. Our young
men must learn that they cannot,
with impunity, ignore the lower
rounds of the laddero on which their !
