Railroad construction is progress-
ing in Europe with almost as much
energy as characterizes that feature
of public improvement in the United
States. At present fifty-two com-
panies are building new lines at a
cost of $55,000,000. I11 France a
plan is under consideration for the
construction of 10,615 miles of new
railways, at a cost of $50,000,000,
the work to occupy six years. Rus-
sia, Austria and Italy are also pro-
jecting and building new lines.

Prickly Ash Bitters
Lnd Malarifuge.
THESE BITTERS wiil prevent con-
tracting of chill# and all malarial dis-
eases if properly used, by invigoratjng the
liver, toning the stoinacn, and regulating
the bowels and kidneys. It is a prepara-
tion from such vegetable extracts of
which the Prickly Ash constitutes a lead-
ing part, that enters into the regular pre-
I scription practice of all medical men,
among whom Dr. Sherman is justly
classed as the successful compounder af
ter an experimental practice of 30 years,
as a complete antidote to all influences
which, if not arrested in time, terminate
in chills and fever or other malarial dis-
eases. '''
Though pleasant to the taste, it is not a
beverage, (as the extracts are held in so-
lution in pure Holland gin only) because
of its cathartic properties, and is therefore
an infallible remedy for habitual constipa-
tion.
THE MALARIFUGE is a certain cure
tor chills when once contracted. It has
never failed to effect a cure where the di-
rections. which accompany each bottle,
are I followed.
Druggists are hereby authorized to re-
fund the money to any party purchasing
who claims a cure is not effected, provid-
ing the directions are followed and the
empty bottle returned. For sale by all
druggists 6,7 '79dwiy

J E. MASON,
Manufacturer and Dealer in
Cigars;
These two paragraphs, in the same
dispatch from Galveston, are signifi-
cant:
The court of appeals to-day re-
versed the judgment in the Abei>
Rothschild case, and remanded the
case for a new trial.
The cases of Sam Meyers, from
Johnson county, and Rolan Rucker,
from Anderson county, in both of
which cases the death penalty was
assessed, were both affirmed.
Rothschild, or his friends, have
plenty of money, the others are not
so fortunate.
Grant is remarkably sweet on the
southern people now. An exchange
says Grant is reported as saying, in
conversation with Judge Mackey,
something which reflects very much
on General Sherman. Pointing to
the blackened chimney of a half-
burned house along the route of his
journey in South Carolina, General
Grant said: "This is one ot Gen.
Sherman's monuments." Judge
Mackey said: "I am glad to know
that you left very few of these mon-
uments during the wur." "That is
true," said Grant, '"There was one
private hnuse burned by my orders
during the war, and that was one
where water was refused to wounded
soldiers! In all my campaign
around Richmond there was not a
single house burned except by acci-
dent or in violation of orders."
The choicest wines, cigars and tobac-
cos are to be found at iippstein's. He
continues to keep that pure old Kentucky
whisky for which the house is so justly
celebrated. 14'*
