What Unlimited And (Cheap
Gas (Supply Means
Entering Dallas on highway No. 75
one sees a huge sign paid for by one of the
large banks and dedicated to the fact
Dallas has plenty of gas for power and
commercial use at a rale attractive to in-
dustry.
The sign is not only a tribute to the
forward looking management of tjie bank,
but shows a spirit of the higher selfishness
which should he manifested by nil business
concerns.
The bank figures that what attracts
more people to Dallas will
>
THE DENISON PRESS
also bring to them their quota of the ad'
ded business. And trfvat is the higher sel-
fishness.
Lower selfishness is the kind that tries
to undermine the business of a competitor
and will not spend one cent in advertis-
ing that is not decidedly and directly in the
advertiser's favor. He will not subscribe
to any fund unless he sees where it is com-
ing back in immediate manner and direct
way to him. Such selfishness never builds
but always destroys.
Again the appeal is made for new in-
dustries on the ground they will find not
only ample gas, but a fair rate of cost. And
that is something to consider. Back of
such a statement are hundreds of men and
millions in money dedieated to the one
tilling of securing an ample gas supply that
will be fed into the factories and homes
under all conditions of weather and opposi-
tion by the elements. Back of tjhat claim
which the bank is glad to make is is tjie
assurance that tjhe company is able to
make good the advertisement's claims. He
eonld not be so sure with a company which
had decided limitations as to its source of
gas supply and lack of trained men and
lo^hr.ifrjans ready on am instant's
notice to answer the call of emergency and
see that the flow of gas to users is not
broken.
When a city can boast of adequate
gas, electric and water supply at a reason-
able figure, it has tjie foundation for at-
tractive invitations to be sent to prospect-
ing business and industry.

Until those persons who are elected
to represent the business and civic interests
of tijie town can learn the lesson of work-
ing together in harmony with the absence
of petty differences wjhich marplot things,
no one will be inspired to unleash his best
efforts and the town will never be much
•more than a place that has grown in spite
of the bad leadership it has had. It takes
little men to be jealous of others and
small potatoes to hold back the efforts of
your contemporaries.
WHAT
OTHER EDS
ARE THINKING
WRONG BIBLE CHAPTER,
BUT MEANING CLEAR
We're not an authority for the
statement, but the following story
under a Fort Worth dateline, is
given you exactly as we read it.
It's interesting, to say the leasr,
and we think you'll be interested.
The heading of the story says: " It
Was Wrong Bible Chapter, but
Meaning Was Clear." Says tho
story:
Whtn one Fort Worth woman
heard over the radio that Presi-
dent Roosevelt rested his hand on
the family Bible opened at First
Corinthians, 13.th chapter, to
take his oath, she rushed for her
Bible. In haste she mistakenly
opened it to Second Corinthians,
13th chapter. It read: 'This is
the third time I am coming to
you. . . .in the mouth of two or
three witnesses shall every word
Ibe established. . .1 told you be-
fore, and I foretell you now. .

Interesting Bits
About Our Friends
Untiring Jeanie Willard
'Mark Twain once is said to
have made the remark) that he
believed in "more taffy and less
epitaphy." People can't hear the
nice things about them after
they are dead, and a kindly re-
mark on a tombstone is less en-
couraging to one than a word of
praise spoken when they can hear
J and' be inspired to carry on.
While entering Sherman from the
west last night, the first warm
lights of that good town's skyline
to greet our eyes were those
shining through the windows of
the Woodman Circle home atop a
high hill by the highway. Every
room was alight and within
could be seen figures moving in
comfort and protection afforded
by this good organization. Back
of it all we saw a woman from
Denison—Mrs. Jeanie Willard. To
her as much as to anyone else
may the credit go for this splendid
building and as a monument to
.loving labor none could wish for
a greater. Those streaming
.Hghts and warm rooms, and that
■fine
.from the paved highway, would
not be sitting there were it not
for the labors of this good Deni-
son woman. Years ago when she
was assisting her husband, S'. P.
.Willard in his printing and novel-
,ty business here, we picked her as
,one highly capable, and are not
.surprised that she has become an
.outstanding figure in the Wood-
,men
plant, the Kraft plant, the public
schools, and local concerns like
the two banks, the Madden com-
pany, U. S. clothing, Kingston,
Loi-Mac, Babcock, Denison Auto,
and up and down the street with
the others whose names are famil-
iar here to those who love Denison
and have all we have in the way
of life's possessions invested—all
these bespeak toil of the untiring
kind and labors of love which will
not be forgotten although the
originators of the bsuiness have
or will pass on. . . .Why are you
sometimes depressed and do not
know why? It is because of the
signs or is it because of rain or
snow? One friend says that be-
fore they even see the snow that
may have fallen dtiring the night
quietly and unseen, they awake
with a depressed spirit, and says
that snow always does that to
them. They state they never un-
dertake anything that calls for
their best on such days. New
what is your strong day? What is
it that depresses or thrills you on
stated days? Have you ever fig-
ured yourself out? Plato said to
"know thyself." But how many
of us study ourselves as to
strong points and weak ones?
Personally we have a iazy streak-
—at least it seems that way to
us on some days. We feel like wo
could sell anything to the most
stubborn sales resisting person,
and again a mouse could scare
us if we let ourselves down to
the level we hear calling to us.
But to listen to a mood is a dan-
generous thing. Never make a
serious decision on a mood. The
thing to do with a mood is to
knock it down, waTk over it,
throw the ink bottle at it and
then cast it out of the window.
Many a persons has quit a good
job or asserted the wrong atti-
tude when in a mood bf depres-
sion. Remember, "he that ruleth
his spiirt is greater than he that
taketh a city."
