mittee, aspointed by the citizens
of Linden, and vicinity, in mass
meeting assembled, deeply de
ploring the destruction of prop-
erty and life due to the ravages
of the cyclone which has just
passed through our midst, scat-
tering devastation in its path
and deeming it an occasion call-
ing for immediate relief to the
homeless and destitute, respect-
fully solicit contributions which
may be sent to either of the un-
dersigned.

I want to say to those who are contesting
for my GRAPHOPHONES that have
been advertised in the News since Jan-
uary last, that the contest wTill come to
a close on the loth of June 1908. All
those who have tickets in said contest,
will bring them in by the 15th of June
1908. After that date they will not
be counted as I do not expect to eontin-
tinue this premium any longer than
the date above mentioned. Please
govern yourselves accordingly.

Dud Carwile Dead
James Dudley Carwile, ex-
member of Texas Legislature
from Cass county, died Monday
evening at 7:00 o'clock, p. m, at
the homo of his brother, Jeff D.
Carwile, just west of the city.
Mr. Carwile has been in bad
in bad health for several years.
He was stricken with Uraemia
Sunday morning at 2:00 o'clock
and had one convulsion after an-
other unlil his death, 40 hours
latar without ever regaining
consciousness.
He was buried at Douglass,
vilie Tuesday by the Masonic
Fraternity, of which he was a
member.
