So far as the propaganda for
the use of fiat money is concerned
this world has not existed over
COOO years under all forms of gov-
ernment for nothing: the
necessity for money has ever
been present upon those
governments and neither the
greed of avarice nor the devices
of thrift has ever ventured upon
the field of fiat money or succeed-
ed in the evolution of any system
similar thereto which "could exist
even for a day. It would look
strange indeed that the men of
small calibre who are to-day lead-
ing the hosts of the populists
have invented a scheme which
has escaped the invention and the
contrivances of necessity fo; 6000
years. Comanche Chief.

If the decline of cotton and
wheat is to be ascribed to the cir-
culation of this country it is diffi-
cult to understand why that de-
cline has not attended other com
modities and staple products.
Rut as it is a known fact that -the
prices of these commodities are
regulated in Europe the evil
whatever it be exists in Europe
and must be remedied where it ex-
ists. If we could succeed by free
coinage or any other system in pil-
ing up in this country a volume
of depreciated money which
would reach the stars it could
not affect the price of cotton
which is consumed in Europe and
the price of which is regulated in
Liverpool and simply transferred
to the other markets of the world.
