A pretty traveling costume Bhown
last week was of light weight chevoit
of a very-light tan made with full plain
skirt and doUbte-breasled coat with
flat velvet collar. The hat to wear
with this costume in Florida was of
rough open work straw brown with
dark blue corn flowers. This combi-
nation of blue and brown is dear to the
heart of thetPjrisian modiste and she
makes us the use of it whenever it Is
possible. The shape of the hat was
flat with small round crown and cur-
ving brim. '
A pretty costume worn at church
Sunday by Miss Helen Robinson see-
med to me extremely" pretty. Of 'a
sege green velvet the coat was long
and with full skirts thereto with deep
cape collar and "Victonne of sable.
The hat was from Francois if I mis-
take me not with deep curling brim
and clever grouping of ostrirh plumes
the same shade with rosette of pale
yellow at the back of the liat This
costume u. quite sure to be worn on
Easter Sunday if the day be fine.
Colored waistcoats cf every coceiva-
ble material are to be quite the fashion
this spring Dainty bits of brocade
and damask have been unearthed from
old trunks and most stunning effects
have been gained. Waistcoats of duck
and pique will be much worn later but
these more georgeous affairs will be
wcrn until the linen duck and pique
suits can be put on. With these waist-
coats the stiff lmen shirt front and
mannish little ties are a necessity.
The collar must be high and fit per-
fectly and the ties must always be
absolutely immaculate.
Brown the Stylish Color.
Very few spring costumes are being
made of hopsacking. This has not
proved a good material for hard wear
for it wears rough and is very harsh.
The prettiest iiopsacking ever made
has" been in brown lllack is very
ugly. Mr. Pierpont Morgan's oldest
daughter has recently had made one
of these hopsacking costumes of brown
trimmed with naarow jet. The poin-
ted overskirt triinmeJ with jet and
the jaunty little coat finished with the
same affective trimming made the
harsh material look quite soft.
Brown is to be the fashionable co-
loreither trimmed with the same in
different srades or with .a rutitrAsling
color. Not thank Dame Fashion with
green or heliotrope as some ventur-
some souls essayed last year but with
blue or black. Mrs. Hurke Roche
whose taste in dress is unequaled is
wearing a most stunning gown of brown
hopsacking trimmed with ruchings and
rosettes of satin and brown. Then
with this on cold days Mrs. Roche lus
worn a most superb mantle of deep
heliotrope velvet reaching almost to
the hem of her gown and trimmed
heavily with fur.
There is a great effort being made
to introduce the sleeveless Eton jack-
ets of fur and velvet for spring wear.
These jackets are very unbecoming to
any but tall slender women and can
never be universally popular. A swell
modiste the other day exhibited a spring
costume of dark green cheviot of light
weiglitTairdnhe".Aaliieilmeurged-the
nurchase of a jauiUv little sleeveless
jacket of persian lamb made with very
broad revcrs. It was very effective
but how it Would look on a slwft
"stocky" woman I do not care to think.
The happy days have tcturncu when
a black silk costume is part and parcel
of a ww3aa- wardrobe. If onew very
rich this same black gown is merely
one of many. It one is not poseed
of n unlimited rtllpwance for dress this
black gown with different waists can
be a joy forever "WaUls" is a term
win ;h should no longer be used
'body has qui'e taken its place and
while at first it is startling to be told
by one's uuld that thebUck bodies are
all in the oak wardrobe the shock is
soon over and the new word seems
quite natural.
Mr. J. A. Archer and John Keart
have formed a broncho team and are
bucking for all the work ' they can
get. See them before letting your
work. They will do it right or fix it so
no otle else can. otf
