Our columns contain the an-
nouncement of J. J. Clinton for
reelection to the office of Mar-
shal of this city. He has served
long and faithfully in this capac-

an adage that no man wants to
tackle him for that office- How-
ever that may be it is certainly
true that no man in Abilene has
-more friends and no man is more
unselfish more chariatble or
kinder hearted. He comes as
near being on the streets night
and day as is possible for any
man and tries to avert trouble
as a better means than persecu-

Our Tax Role.
An intelligent gentleman who
lives in Taylor county and pays
taxes on a considerable body of
land has made complaint to us
about the taxes in this county
claiming that the assessment
is too high compared to surround
ing counties and instances Run-
nels as one. We gave it as our
information in a general way
that if there was a difference in
this respect it is more than off-
set by a lower rate in this county
and promised to investigate and
report in these columns. Here
is the result the amount being
given in cents upon $100 valua-
tion: Average for the state $ .59
