A man and a horse in a field with survey crew camp in background, c. 1902. A Chicago, Rock Island & Gulf survey crew surveyed a ten-mile stretch between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas in 1902. Two of the members remained behind and founded the town of Irving along the tracks in 1903.

Charles and Catherine Schulze Collection

Photographs donated by Charles Schulze, Jr. and his wife, Catherine. Charles was the nephew of J. O. Schulze, a co-founder of Irving. The photographs include images of Irving at the turn of the century, as well as many images taken by the Chicago Rock Island railroad survey crew as they traveled throughout the South.
