state in fifth place in poultry
shipments.

Man with 8,000,000 Pound
Pecan Order Seeks Help
in Texas.
A Georgia pecan grower, with
orders on file for 8,000,000,
pounds of paper-shell pecans aud
unable to fill them, came to Tex-
as to see if he could get them
here. Although Texas is one of
the biggest producers of pecans,
he was told he couldn't get any
large supply of the paper-shells.
The Georgia man has nearly 6,-
000 acres in paper-shell pe-
cans. He sold one order of 1,-
000,000 pounds and that one
order resulted in his getting two
additional orders of 1,000,000
pounds each.
The pecan, indigenous to Texas
is an increasiuly valuable pro-
duct of the South. There is an
increasing interest in Texas in
producing the varieties that are
more in demand, but the bulk of
the Texas crop is still "native,"
which is to say of small size, bard
shell, but with a meat that in
flavor is generally regarded as
superior to the nuts grown in
other states.

In Memory of Loyd.
0 travestry of Fate! How often I
Have said: We could not let him die;
And yet—he lies here calm ond cold
While we are left with hearts so old.
And all the joy of life seems gone
That God should take our very own,
And leave us with a broken band.
(God rest his soul in thy dear land.)
1 have stood by and seen felends go,
But O, dear Lord, I did not know
The bitterness, the sorrow, the pain,
When my loved, my own, comes not
again.
Perhaps God's will—I do not know,
Is it the Master's way to make souls
grow?
But this we know—God gave his Son
To save our boy, our precious one.

This Bond Issue That
You are receiving notice of
through the press and other
a&encies is beiog put before
the people of Linden be
cause it is the purpose of the
Chamber of Commerce and the
City Commissioners to give the
people the things they want and
need. The people of Linden are
no longer satisfied with the
drudgery and inconveniences
that they have put up with, do-
ing without city water. They
have ask for deep well water and
they are going to get it.
The citizen of Linden who said
that he was getting old but
would like to tenjoy modern con-
veniences the rest of his life here
on earth spoke the sentiments of
many citizens of Linden. These
are not the only citizens of Lin-
den who wants city water.
Every man, woman and child in
the town has a right to these
conveniences.
How are you going to put in
this water system? There is only
one just and right way nnd that
is by voting bonds. *es, some
men will have to pay more under
this plan than others but they
will receive more benefits from
having the water system. By
sacrificing many things the town
migbt be able to pay for the wa-
ter system at present, or they
might let a private concern put
it in. There are serious objec-
tions to both of these plans.
The objections to the first is that
it is not right for the working
people to build and pay for some-
thing for the next generation to
enjoy without paying anything,
and the objection to the second
plan is that a private concern
would not operate the plan with
out a profit and the city needB
this.
The people of Linden have Ja
right to have the plans of this
proposed water system put be-
fore them.' For this reason, pos-
ter maps will be posted at dif-
ferent places in the town. Any-
one desiring additional informa-
tion may get it ftom tho Cham-
ber of Commerce and City Com-
missioners.
