English Policeman
Writes Local Couple
The following letter has been
received by Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Watson of the Caves Springs
community from an English Police-
man who has met and formed a
close friendship with their son
Duke, who is with the American
forces being trained in England:
Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Watson:
There is no doubt that when you
receive this letter you will wonder
who it is from, and will look to the
last page to find out. Well, to help
you, let me first say that I am an
Englishman, and have been a
friend of your son for some time
and I told him that I should write
you and let you know how he is |
getting on over-here in England, j
Well, folks, he is first of all in the |
very best of good health, and he is j
in very excellent spirit, and above i
all he is behaving himself well, and
in a manner that befits a gentle-
man.
I know that you must often
think of him and wonder what he
is doing my mother does the same,
when her children are away, and I
too am a fair distance from my
folks, just 200 miles, but I am
luckier that your boy I cah get to
see them occasionally, but your lad
cant just pop over to see you,-
but rest assured he is among good
friends, I have a nick name for him
I call him "Tex" on account of him
coming from Texas, so if I refer to
him in this letter as "Tex" you
will know who I mean. I first met
him at our local Town Hall, at a
dance run by the local Poliee,—I
am a Policeman, and I saw "Tex"
in the Bar. and we got talking to
each other, first aboui the War,
then our folks, and our wives and
kids, and he and I got on fair well
togeather, as we are both the same
age, he tell me a lot about his wife
and children, and he very proud of
them so please tell his wife, that he
is always thinking of her and the
children, and of course his mother
and dud are always in his thoughts
We people in England are glad to
have fellows like him over here,
they are the Salt of the earth, and
I should be pleased and be glad it
you would please tall the mothers
and fathers, wives and sweethearts
of any man you know is Uncle
Sam's army in Englanc that we
people here are proud and happy
to lave them here with us, and
and they may rest content that we
people over here will do every thing
we can to enlighten their burden,
the burden of homesickness, tell
them all not to worry over their
menfolk, they are all in excellent
spirits, and of ours i like we here
have only one object, and now best
wishes to Tex wife and children.
Wishing vWi nil a very happv
New Year, lets hope your family
will all Oe re-united .soon.
Good Luck, faithfully
W.fola Toole.
