of fifty-five jobless colored -persons in
the city court according to the Bal-

I.eii Thompson of the city tire de-
partment was stricken with an attack
of appendicitis a day or so ago and
was carried to a sanitarium for treat-
ment today.
Numerous fishing parties are going
and returning these days and the usu-
al report is that fish are biting at a
lively rate and are plentiful in prac-
tically all the streams in thc Brown
wood area.
Mayor Looney spent considerable
time at the dam today where work by
wav of rebuilding is making steady
progress and wtlh two or three weeks
favorable conditions the dam wUl be
completed.
IV. T. Powers a well -known citizen
of the Blanket locality died last night
at tho age of Co. He leaves a widow
and several children. Interment took
place at C o'clock this evening at
Rock Church cemetery.
H. Ruckcr commissioner of Pre-
cinct No. 1 and in charge of roads in
this precinct stated today that weath-
er conditions made it possible for a
great dqal ot good work to be done now
on the various roads and that a large
numbor of hands were busy building
and repairing at various places.
Pastor .1. W. Johnson of the "orth
Brownwood Methodist church is high-
ly elated this week at having received
as a gift from a friend of the church
a splendid piano whloh has been
placed In the church for Use at all the
services. The members of the con-
gregation had' been wondering what
they would do for a desirable musical
instrument and this friend solved the
problem to a nicety.
Hetty Turner little daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. B. Turner sustained a
painful injury Thursday afternoon
while riding a bicycle cnnnite to her
homo from school. The bicycle skid-
ded on a banana peel throwing the
little girl to the ground and painfully
bruising ono kueo. The banana peel
was thrown in the path of the bicycle
it is said by a party of boys riding in
an automobile and the latter were in-
terested and apparently amused wit-
nesses of the accident.

sued a statement In which they claim
that 75 per cent of the diseases ot
Texas are preventable.
In certain of the European coun-
tries smullpox is unknown because
vaccination Is compulsory and the
same disease In this country could be
eliminated by that means which is
the only way of ever getting rid of it
entirely

doctor in Brownwood arc protected
against smallpox by vaccination. Why
not every one else?
