Since 1983, the Museum has recorded the history and preserved historical artifacts of the county, named after co-author of the Texas Declaration of Independence George C. Childress. The building that houses the Museum is of Spanish Colonial style and received Texas Historical Landmark designation in 1991.

Notes

Written on the back of the photograph:

"Pioneer Roundup... OX Ranch in 1898

That's an OX chuckwagon, Pardner, in 1898, and to this day Knox Crews of Plainview can tell who some of the cowpokes are.

Left to right they are Bill Lemons, Baker, Wade O'Neal, Walker, Earnest Hunt, Knox Crews, Odis O'Neal, two unidentified, the cook, Daddy O'Neal, and Charles Womack of Quanah.

In the inset picture there's Andy Scott on the donkey and Rush Crews, deceased, Ed O'dell, Lubbock, is second from the right and at the extreme right is C.E. Crews, deceased, another of the Crews brothers.
