O THI UPPER ROOM. NASMVILli. TINNfSSFt
Read Jonah 2: Luke 11:29-36
"When my soul fainted within
me, I remembered the Lord; and
my prayer came to thee, into thy
holy temple." (Jonah 2:7 RSV.)
Has there ever been anyone in
a more desperate situation than
.Tonah? Disobedient to the Lord,
trying to avoid his divine mis-
sion, and trying to escape from
the presence of God, he was in
deadly peril as the Lord passed
judgment on him.
In his despair ,he cried to God.
His prayer shows his utter devo-
tion to the Lord. It gives voice to
his pasionate reverence for God's
holy temple.
In his prayer, Jonah renounced
all allegiance to idols. He mani-
fested an unshakable faith in
God's redeeming power. He prais-
ed God for deliverance, as if it
had already happened. He re-de-
dicated his life to the Lord, and
his prayer found acceptance.
To his own unbelieving genera-
tion, Jesus held up Jonah as an
example of repentance. He also
used Jonah's condition and deliv-
erance as a symbol of His own
death and resurrection.
PRAYER: Our Father, we pray
Thy forgiveness for all disobed;
ience to Thv will in our lives.
Help us by Thy grace to surrend-
er ourselves completely to Thee
through Christ, our blessed Re-
deemer. who taught us to pray,
"Our Father who art in heaven
. .Amen."
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: De-
liverance belongs to the Lord.
