thanksgiving and the same mea;
lovingly received with thanks-
giving is a yearly ritual with a
deep meaning.
Now we might choose to
consider Thanksgiving as simply
another occasion for the family to
get together or one of two or
three opportunities to eat turkey
and dressing.
We might choose to go through
the yearly ritual and not think
about the deeper meaning of
what we are actually doing. But
I think something very significant
When we take a meal together
we signitv afresh that /ve need
one another ana that we need the
nourishment that the earth pro-
vides. We signify that we are in
need and that the need has been
graciously provided. The realiza-
tion that such is the case con-
verts Thanksgiving from simply a
festive occasion to what could be
called a Holy Happening.

Southlake Carroll Ends Wylie
Football Season, 27-12
BY CHRISTI NALL
Members of Girl Scout Troop r602 sold candy to raise money for the purchase of Thanksgiving food for
needy families. Shown at Skaggs Alpha Beta are Sarrah Barnes, Lisa Overby and Sara Arnold. Other troop
members who participated in the project included Daenon Westrum, Melinda Hughs, Laura Perfater, Jen-
nifer Garner, Nickole Brown, and Kelly Powell. Scout leader is Sherri Perfater, and Alice Garner is assistant
leader.
There's not room for mistakes
in the playoffs, especially not nine
turnovers. Yet, the Wylie Pirates
managed to lose four fumbles
and five passes to help the
Southlake Carroll Dragons to a
27-12 victory at Pennington Field
in their regional football playoff
game.
The uncharacteristic mistakes
came early in the first half, while
the points added on one after
another. Finally, in the second
half, the Pirates were able to
adjust to the big and strong
Dragons, but the effort proved to
come up short.
David Blanchard put the first
points on the scoreboard when
he broke through Wylie's tough
defensive line for a 46-yard
touchdown run. Don Florence
added the PAT.
It was Wylie's ball when the
first fumble started a long series
of turnovers. To make matters
worse, the ball was on Wylie's
15-yard line.
Quarterback Mike Uldrich
handed off to Ronnie Cardwell,
who in turn, pitched an eight-yard
TD pass to Blanchard. Florence
added the kick, and the Dragons
led. 14-0.
Another Carroll score ended
with a two-yard pass to Blan-
chard. The PAT was good.
Guess what happened next?
Another Wylie turnover, this time
a fumble on the Pirates' 15-yard
line. Wylie's defense allowed only
a 26-yard field goal to end the half
with a lopsided 24-0 Dragon lead.
Wylie received the second half
kickoff, but on the second play
Carroll intercepted a pass on the
Pirate 25-yard line. The ball was
returned to the 10 and the de-
fense managed to hold and allow
only a 36-yard field goal.
The Pirates began to show the
Dragons why they made it this far,
finally getting their offense mov-
ing. Step by step the Pirates
traveled 70 yards upfield, and
Dan Heischman went the last
yard for the first Wylie score. The
PAT pass failed, keeping the
score 27-6.
