FESTIVE JUBILEE DAYS
DAWNING IN WYLIE
That season of celebration
called Jubilee Days is coming
to Wylie.
Although the banner down-
town proclaims the dates as
July 14-16, activities actually
get under way on Saturday,
July 9, at Rustic Oaks Apart-
ment Homes, 401 Fleming.
Then a carnival will open on
July 11 and continue
throughout the week, accord-
ing to Bev Nemer, secretary
of the Chamber of Commerce
and Jubilee sponsor.
Here's how the lineup looks
this week (and some times
may change):
July 9: First Wylie Olymp-
ics, which will become an an-
nual event, at Rustic Oaks,
benefiting the Wylie YMCA.
July 11-16: Carnival in down-
town area
July 14: All-day sidewalk
sales. Mariachi band at
Maria's Mexican Restaurant,
Rustic Oaks Shopping Center
on Brown Street, at 7 p.m.
July 15: All-day sidewalk
sales. Gospel singing on the
grassy lot across from First
United Methodist Church,
Jackson Street. Take lawn
chairs. First State Bank-
Wylie will serve ice cream.
July 16: All-day sidewalk
sale. Parade at 10:30 a.m.
Concessions and live music in
the afternoon. Free
stagecoach rides, courtesy
independent Bank-Wylie from
close of parade until 6 p.m.
from bank parking lot. Street
dance in downtown area 'n
the evening. Drawing for
$500 in Wylie "money-
redeemable with Wylie
merchants.
According to Susan Lee and
Barbara Raley, Rustic Oaks
coordinators, KPLX will
broadcast live remote
between 3 and 5 p.m., July 9,
with Tim Hart of the Winners'
Van handing out free T-shirts
and bumper stickers.
City officials and a number of
merchants will take turns in
the dunking booth, play water
volleyball and participate in
the tug-of-war.
There will be 25-cent hot
dogs, prizes, trophies, a bake
sale, cake walk, a clown,
balloons, and a space walk.
The aparrtment complex will
present a 13-inch color
television to those who lease
an apartment during Jubilee
Week.
The apartment is loading its
pool to the Y for swimming
lessons, which will continue
through September.
New Sachse Zip Code
Goes Into Effect July 2
Kathy Helm shows a youngster named Melissa the art of bubble blowing at First Baptist
Church, Sachse.
Beginning July 2, the new
zip code for ALL of Sachse
will be 75048 .
Sachse postal patrons will
be able to use either Garland
or Sachse as an address,
along with the present street
address and the new zip code.
Also, effective July 2, mail for
the area will be delivered ex-
clusively from the Garland
Post Office.
Left notices will be available
for pick up at the main post
office, 1000 W. Walnut St.,
Garland. Telephone inquiries
should be directed to
272-5541.
Sachse residents and bus-
inesses should begin notifying
publishers/correspondents of
the new address/zip code. It
will NOT be necessary for
patrons to provide a change
of address to the Postal Serv-
ice for this service change.
Postal authorities will contin-
ue giving customers the same
service on mail with the old
address and zip code, but
mail may be delivered more
promptly with the change of
address.
The new zip code is the re-
sult of a preference survey
conducted several months
ago by the U.S. Postal Service
and the Sachse Chamber of
Commerce whereby a
majority of the customers in
the Sachse area indicated
they preferred mail service
through the Garland Post
Office, rather than the Wylie
Post Office.
