Texas Moline Plow Company
The Moline Plow Company of Illinois established a Texas branch before the turn of
the century. Local business was so good that the company opted to erect an eight-
story warehouse at Pacific Avenue and Market Street in 1902. Like other implement
distributors, the company would become an automobile distributor in later years,
selling Stephens motorcars to rural dealers. The Texas Moline Plow Company build-
ing survives today in the popular West End district of Dallas, housing Sonny Bryan's
BBQ and other businesses.

Dorsey Printing Company
Founded in 1884, the Dorsey Company quickly became the largest printing house in
the Southwest. After two early printing plants were destroyed by fire, brothers James
and Henry Dorsey erected this fine six-story building at Commerce and Poydras in
1902.The company produced stationery, ledgers, and bound journals for customers
throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Plants at Houston and Muskogee were eventually
added. The company also sold office equipment and furniture in later years. After the
deaths ofJames and Henry, the company eventu-
ally passed from family control and left downtown
Dallas. The printing side of the company survives
today as Williamson Printing, located near Love
Field. The site of the old Dorsey Company build-
ing is occupied today by a McDonald's restaurant ,
near the Cabell Federal Building. fIo LEGACIES Spring 2013
