Wise said. "Paramedics had to
work to keep her breathing on
the way. After arriving at the
hospital, doctors ran a lot of
tests. In a normal situation a
toddler is not likely to survive,
and 1 was told to prepare for the
worst."
Wise said hopes were run-
ning low, but friends and family
stayed faithful and began to
pray.
"Ever)' day was ended with a
prayer from the family's pastor,
Brother Jim Everidge." she
said. "Finally she did wake, and
was able to say 'no,' but shortly
after, her breathing stopped, and
she was immediately put back
on the ventilator. Our hopes fell
and prayers continued.
Amazingly she woke out of her
groggy state and recognized her
parents and even wanted to play

Billy Mac Harp
Funeral services for Billy Mac Harp, 62, of Sachse will be held
at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Charles W. Smith and
Sons Funeral Home chapel in Sachse. Interment will follow at the
Sachse Cemetery. Monty Moncibais will officiate the service.
Mr. Harp died March 9 at home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Sherman.
Survivors include his mother, Geneva Baze Harp; sister, Donna
K. Harp; brother, Donald R. Harp; best friend, Monty Moncibais;
other family members, including Katie Hale, Emma Baze and
members of the Harp, Neal and Baze families, numerous niece
and nephews and his dog. Sambo.
He was preceded in death by his father. Fow ler Harp.
Pallbearers will be members of the Dallas Police Department.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, at
Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse.
Allie Morey
Atlie Morey. 85. formerly of Wylie died
Feb. 27, 2009, in Abilene.
Mrs. Morey was bom July 3, 1923, in
Brazos Counts to the late George Lee and
Grade Gertrude (Wright) Currie. She was
the last surv iving child of eight, including
her twin.
Slie was a former member of First
Baptist Church Wylie and Dunn Memorial
Baptist Church of New Hope before mov-
ing to Clyde and joining First Baptist Church of Clyde. She was
retired from DLM in Allen. According to her family, she was an
accomplished painter and avid gardner and was greatly loved. They
also said that she was a breast cancer survivor and stroke victim but
always had "a loving smile and quick wit," and she loved her faith
and her family.
Survivors include her sons, John Charles Rhodes and his wife
Laurie of Brookings, Ore.. Nick Rhodes and his wife Betty of Wylie.
Daniel Lee Rhodes and his wife Linda of Haltom City, Chris Morey
and his wife Renee of San Angelo. John Terrell Morey and his wife
Becky of Uvalde; daughters. Pam Reed and her husband Tony of
Clyde and Donna McGuire of Alexandra. La.; 22 grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by husbands, John Charles Rhodes Sr.
and Donnie F. Morey.
Velma Irene McWhirter
Graveside services for Velma Irene McWhirter of Wylie were
held at March 5 at the Jacksonville City Cemetery in
Jacksonville.
Chaplain Inez Lowe officiated.
Mrs. McWhirter died March 3, 2009. She was born June 23.
1912, in Jacksonv ille to the late Ernest Lynnwood and Ruby Pearl
Smyrl.
Mrs. McWhirter was retired from teache home economics at
Cooper High School in Woodrow. She was a member of Cooper
Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughter. Janis Finch and her husband Sam
H. Finch Jr. of Wylie; three grandchildren and two great-grand-
children.
Arthur R. Serbin Jr.
Funeral services were held March 7
for Arthur R. Serbin Jr. of Wylie.
Mr. Serbin, 53. died Feb. 28, 2009. in
Wylie.
He was born June 5. 1955, in Chicago
to Arthur and Suzanne Serbin.
He is survived by his children,
Vanessa (Adam) Harvey of Norman,
Okla., Arthur Serbin III of Austin and
Vleaghan Serbin of Mansfield; their
mother, Cathy Maples of Irving; grandchildren. Allison Harvey
and Sean Harvey: mother, Suzanne, (nee Riordan); siblings.
Maureen Jurmann of Wheeling. 111., Suzanne (Bruce) Beam of
Arlington Heights, III., and Christopher (Shirley) Serbin of Lake
Forest, 111.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by father. Arthur R. Serbin Sr.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mulkey Mason
Funeral Home of Lewisville.
Irene Alcira Romani
Rosary was read for Irene Alcira Romani of Allen March 4
2009, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie.
Mass was held March 5 at St. Anthony Catholic Church
Interment followed at St. Paul Cemetery in St. Paul.
Mrs. Romani died March 2, 2009, at her home in Allen.
She was born April 5, 1938. in Cochabamba. Peru to the late
Victor Romani and Lidia Bolanos. Prior to retirement she was a
supervisor at a retail headquarters and was a member of St
Anthony Catholic Church in Wylie.
Survivors incude her daughter. Wendy Blanco of Allen: sisters,
Felicia Fitzpatrick of Wylie and Ercila Romani of Lima. Peru:
brothers, Pedro Romani and Abondino Romani of Lima, Peru and
three grandchildren. Daniela, Natalia and Camila Blanco.
Nelma Laveda Rogers
Funeral services for Nelma Laveda Rogers of Culleoka. were
held March 8, 2009. in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel.
Interment followed at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Lowry
Crossing.
Mrs. Rogers died March 5.
She was born May 7, 1918, in McKinney to Samuel Lee and
Nora Ella Putman McMillan.
She married Noah Franklin Rogers Oct. 21. 1934. in McKinney.
Mrs. Rogers worked for Action Company for 13 years and at the
Cotton Mill for 15 years. She also worked at the senior center in
McKinney and was a member of the Culleoka Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children. Laverne Patterson of Culleoka.
Patricia Shelton of Culleoka, Frank Rogers and his wife Kathleen
of Princeton, Patsy Bisterfelt of Tom Bean. Joan Rogers of Wylie.
Karen Musgrave of Denison, Sandra Kay Schunemann and her
husband A1 of Wylie, Sherry Johnson and husband Rodney of
Grand Saline and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband. Noah
Rogers; parents, Samuel Lee and Nora McMillan; daughters. Ica
Lou Townsend and Eva Janell Waide; son. Joyce Lee Rogers; sis-
teis, Grace Hastings, Sylvia Enloe. Betty Welborn Akin and
Thelma Bearden.
