In real-life Cub Scouting, Jason
is a prince of a kid who already
claims a host of accomplishments
and has seized a golden oppor-
tunity.
This modern-day Jason is Jason
Roger (Jay) Sherman, a 10-year-
old Webelos Scout in Pack 3385,
chartered to the Bath. Ohio, Unit-
ed Church of Christ. He has been
selected as Cub Scouting's Na-
tional Youth Representative for
the 1980 Report to the Nation of
the Boy Scouts of America. Jay
will join 15 Boy Scouts and Ex-
plorers in Washington, D.C., in
early February to make presenta-
tions on Scouting to leaders of
government and various national
organizations. If all goes well, he'll
meet former Cubmaster Jimmy
Carter of Pack 25, chartered to a
Group of Citizens in Plains, Ga.
Jay Sherman is something
special—first because, well, just
because he is. As his mother,
Goldie Sherman, puts it with con-
siderable understatement, "I think
he's a neat kid." And he's special,
too, because he's Cub Scouting's
national representative in the pro-
gram's 50th anniversary year.
Now if you're conjuring up a
picture of Jay Sherman as some
kind of goody-goody scattering
angelic smiles and deeds, put it out
of your mind. The reality is dif-
ferent. Jay Sherman is the kind of
boy you'd like for a son—friendly,
exceptionally poised for a 10 year
old, a fine athlete, a very good but
not superior student, a model air-
