TOWN & COUNTY
- August weather. Dusty, dry and hot.
- Business improving.
- Houses are in demand in Longview.
- Quite a number of strangers in town this week.
- Quite a number of cotton wagons on the streets this week.
- We regret that Mr. O.H. METHVIN, Sr. is still in very feeble health.
- The melon and peach wagons have been quite numerous this week and the
prices ranged high, $1.50 per bushel for peaches and melons from one to six
dollars a dozen.
- Mr. W.F. PERRY will again occupy his old stand opposite the ERA office
after the first day of September. His customers are requested to call and
price his stock of groceries and provisions.
- MAYFIELD, REMBERT & Co. have removed to their new quarters at the old
stand of W.S. CLARK, north side of the square. They have now one of the
largest and most attractive store rooms in town.
- We regret to learn that Doctor HARRISON, formerly of this place, died at
Sherman one day last week. The doctor was for many years a zealous member of
the Christian Church, and was a good and useful citizen.. His sorrow stricken
family and relatives have our sincere sympathy.
ANOTHER GOOD WOMAN GONE
Mrs. HOSKINS, mother of Messrs. Joe and Jesse HOSKINS, died at the residence
of Mr. Joe HOSKINS on last Wednesday night. Mrs. HOSKINS was one of
the good women of earth, and has doubtless passed to brighter realms and a
blessed reunion with her companion, who preceded her only a few years.
