All Citizens Of Southside Place
By RIPLEY E. WOODARD
City Attorney, Southside Place
Architect's Sketch Of Planned $12,000,000 Addition
"The time has come," the turtle
said . . . "to talk of many things."
But, the "Alice" in our Won-
derland, beginning on Monday, or
as soon thereafter as possible, will
be W. E. Worthen, contractor, and
his organization who were granted
last Monday the contract to con-
struct the improvements for which
our bonds were voted.
Please be advised that, in the
course of this street, sidewalk and
drainage improvement campaign,
there will be times when your
street may not be as accessible to
your drive-way as it now is.
A system has been promulgated

safety and welfare—whereby at
all times there will be fire lanes
open during the program of con-
struction; and your vehicles must
not be left on the streets and
parkways while the work prog-
resses—either day or night. (And
besides, there are ordinances and
statutes forbidding night parking
on the public ways without the
prescribed flares and lights in ac-
cordance with the State Highway
Department's regulations — Fine
$5.00 to $100.00.)
Some few lots will have to be
crossed with the necessary con-
duits—these owners will be in-
dividually notified—and temporary
ditches will be constructed to ac-
commodate such facility. If there
are flowers or shrubs within the
conduit rights-of-way, they must
of necessity yield while the work
is in progress. However, such
shrubs or flowers will be returned
to their natural state, ordinary
wear and tear excepted. So be not
alarmed at the temporary con-
structions which may detract mo-
mentarily from the appearance of
things. All of the work is planned
for the least inconvenience to all
of us, but the work must be done
if we arc to have the permanent
streets and the benefits of the en-
gineering as planned.

A sketch of the planned Montclair Addition is shown above. This development, to include $5,000,000
in residential construction, $5,000,000 in business building and $2,000,000 in land, community facilities, pav-
ing and utilities, will develop a large section of land between West University Place and downtown
Houston. Russell W. Nix, developer, states that $2,000,000 in residential construction will be completed
within a year.
