XXV. COURAGE
IIKN Julius Caesar was crossing the sea with his army
a storm arose, threatening to destroy the ships and
badly frightened, the despairing sailors were in the act
of returning to the harbor when Caesar stepped upon the deck
and said. "I'Var not, Caesar is with you." The ship of progress
meets many a stormy sea in Texas and sometimes those who
man the boats are tempted to return to still waters, but "Fear
not, the Commercial Secretaries are with you." Courage is the
muse of genius ; nd ,,:i''^|.r v..;. the greatest genius of any race
or au'e. We i < < d a genius to fire us with courage and inspire us
with faith in tha Lone Star State.

Let h .n who wouli weave his name In the fibre of Ins country
step in >:i the forum of the nation and speak words that call
forth courage in the hearts of men as the chisel of a sculptor
brings forth a spirit from the rock; rise like a genius born to
command and light the signal tires of progress on the hearth-
stone of the nation, and awaken the spirit of industrial enter-
prise and commercial adventure throughout the length and
breadth of the land. Texas Needs Great Men.

SOCIAL EVENTS.
Friday evening Misses Mabel
McKelvy and Joe Leech enter-
tained their young friends with
a valentine party at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Lowery.
The reception rooms and dining
room were beautifully and ap-
propriately decorated with Cu-
pids and hearts.
A rhyme contest caused much
merriment, and for the best
rhyme and hand made valentine
the prize was awarded Miss Ana-
bel Nelson.
In honor of leap year the young
ladies were given the opportunity
| of proposing to the young men
| of their choice. In the privacy
I of a cozy corner, the all-import-
' ant question was asked but not
without eaves-droppers who
1 weighed the words of the un-
suspecting speakers and to the
young lady who made the best
and most |>ersuasive proposal a
prize was given. The judges
decided this contest in favor of
Miss Margaret Eaheart who re-
ceived as prize a handsome box
of candy.
From a ribbon sus|>cndcd across
the room a number of pretty
valentines were hung. The
guests were provided with a
small rubber ball and allowed the
chance of dislodging the valen-
tines by throwing the ball.
Those who succeeded in bridging
down a valentine retained it as a
souvenir.
In the dining room the guests
were served with dainty refresh-
ments. Here, too, Cupid had
been at work as evidenced in the
heart shaped cakes of pink and
white which were served with
red gelatine and whipped cream.
The guests thanked their fair
young hostesses for a very de-
lightful evening.
Those present were Misses
Gussie Newcomb, NellSammons,
Margaret Eaheart, Hazel Mo
.limse.v, Annabel Nelson, Joe
Leech, Mabel McKelvy, Ida Clau-
sell, Ora and Zeddie Leech
Messrs. Nelson Palm, Lonnit
Miers, Charles Taylor, Jefferson
Kelly, Joe Castleberry, William
Gillespie, Milburn Long, Howard
Sammons, and Hartzog Renfro.
