COW COUNTRY COMEDY
Nowhere on the face of the earth does one come so
:close to the grass :rootsof living as in West Texas. Life
there has never been~ easy,, depending so much on what Mothert
Nature :has to offer. Aind more often than not, Mother Nature
has been cruel to the West Texan. Drought, flash
flo:odscattle disease, and a number of other hardships
could drive even the toughest man to his knees. One thing
that:'has -kept :the: people ;in that part of the country strong
and productive has been their outlook on life. Through the
hardships that these people have experienced, they have
earned ito laugh when others would cry, persevere when
othe^rswoUld quit. This attitude has created a unique type
of comedy known best to those who experienced it, but one
that can be enjoyed by all.
West Texas humor did not originate with white settlers,
but has existed as far back as the time of the Indians
and Spaniards, even in the gravest situations of life or
