I hope the children will be good and kind to their mother.
Yours in Love,
William Tannahill
A stone had been placed in Iowa by George Tannahill (his son) around 1905. He had
hoped to bring his father's body back to Iowa.
Jennett Tannahill (Wm.'s widow) moved to Phillips Co., Kansas, ca. 1874. Her son
James had gone to Kansas first and taken out a claim. While in Iowa getting reading to move
the family, James was kicked in the head by a horse and died in 1874. Jennett went on to
Kansas with her children Janet Elder, George H., and Isabella Margaret who settled in the
community called Iowa Union. Iowa's Union, which was a part of Freedom Township, was a
neighborhood of early settlers who had come from Chickasaw and Fayette counties in Iowa.
Jennett died March 10, 1908, in Phillipsbury, Kansas.
George, once again, had thought he could have his father's body brought back, now to
Iowa Union Cemetery in Kansas to be near Jennett's grave. William remains buried in
Annapolis Military Cemetery, Maryland. May he rest in peace!
