Miss Anderson was among the
first group of American women to
sign the pledpe. Upon signing,
Miss Anderson said:

and I hope every American algns

Sunday school at both churches
war well -lttended and all officers
were on duty. Miss R. L. Harvey
reviewed the lesson, and Mrs. H.
D. Johnson made some splendid
remarks. Elder and Mrs. W. W.
Whalon of Floresvllle held serv
ice throughout the day. The pres-
ident of the B. T. S. met last Sim
day, and it was group one day. A
playlet was conducted by Mrs.
Teague. A trio was rendered by
Beverly Ann Martin, Norvell Jef-
ferson, aud Otto Williams.
Messrs. T. G. Schuler, R. King;
Misses Benilce Brown and Azer
lee Harvey, who are attending
school In Stockdale, Texas, spent
the week-end In the city with their
pareuts. Mrs. J. W. Hagens and
on, Olive, were the house guests
of Mrs. Ruthie Johnson. Prayer

Grant School
Pupils in the 1-B, 1-A, 2-B, 2-A,
3-B, and 3-A went on a field trip
to the zoo In Brackenridge park,
last Friday. The respective teach
ers with each group were Mes-
dames Clark, Dunn, Barefleld,
Richardson, Mitchell and Carter.
It is needless to say the fun and
experience of seeing the animals
in their near native habitat is
s pleasant part of the visual edu-
cation of every child who took
this trip.
En route to the park, the group
stopped at the Borden Dairy com-
pany for an inspection of this
plant The officials were most,
cordial in their welcome, and serv-
ed every member of the party with
delicious ice cream sandwiches.
They also expressed appreciation to
I he teachers for choosing their
place of business for this visit
An interesting part ot the
school's dally activities is the rais-
ing of the flag. Al least once
a week the entire school gathers
around the flag and goe* through
a very lmpreesive flag ceremony.

Miss Lillian Ray of Boulder,
Colorado, at present teaching In
the school in Corpus Chrlsti, aid
Miss L. Crawford, also of the
Corpus school, accompanied by
William Hegw«od, Jr., visited the
school last week.
More than one hundred children
.ittended the play "Sleeping Beau-
,ty" at the Municipal auditorium
Inst Tuesday. This group was
properly chaperoned and the
teachers report the order was most
commendable. The play was one
of a series to be presented at later
dates.
Wheatley
Activities
Wheatley was filled with en-
thusiastic activities from begin-
ning to eud during the entire
week.
In a special assembly, Monday,
December 1, an educational pic-
ture, "The Boulder Dam," was
shown to the students In the
school auditorium. The picture
showed the Boulder dam from its
liegluning to its present position.
On Wednesday, December 3,
Miss T. Lucille Salisbury, a travel-
ing representative of Hampton In-
stitute, was visitor to the school.
She addressed members of the
class ot 1M2. and told them about
Hampton. After the meeting, Misi
Salisbury was served a cafeteria
luncheon by the home economic*
department
Miss Emma E. Pirle brought
guests to the school, Friday, Da>
ceniber S. They were entertained
with a luncheon In the home
economics dining room.
An organization contributing
much to the school is the Student
council. The council had a meet-
ing Tuesday, November 25. Three
committees made reports. They
were as follows: Deportment com-
mittee, Doris Harris, chairman j
Budget and Examining committee,
Maxine Bellinger, chairman; Char-
ter committee, Bonnie Fa/e Mil-
liard, chairman.
The dalles of all 10 committee*
of the club were discussed and
explained by the sponsor, P. D.

team went to Houston to meet th*
Phyllis Wheatley team there.
The pep squad and band accom-
panied the football team to Hous-
ton.

the school, chaperoned by some
of the teachers, attended and en-
joyed the first of the series of
four Clara Tree Junior produc-
tions at the Municipal auditorium
on Tuesday afternoon, December
2. They returned so enthused that
many more will attend the next
play on January 13, 1M2.
The regular meeting of the Par-
ent-Teacher association was Thun*
day afternoon, December 9. Chap-

Houston, was the guest speaker.
All patrons and friends of the
school were invited. The attend-

social studies unit, the 5-B class,

er, Mrs. B. R. Ragsdsl*. made a
trip to many historic spots of
down-town San Antonio, including
the little Spauish town, "La Vil-
llta," at which latter place courte-
ous guides brought out many In-
teresting points which the class
will use to build future social
