LITERARY SOCIETIES ADJOURN

Monday morning the Alamo
and San Jacinto Literary Socie-
ties almost immediately after
coming to order, adjourned out
of respect for our lamented dead

Starnes. A committee appoint
ed by the Alamo Society drew
up the following resolutions:

wise Providence to call from

Mert Starnes;
Therefore, Be it resolved by
the Alamo Society that we here-

bereavement:

DOWN AND OUT CLUB.
While some of the Mood Hall
boys were recently gathered in
one room for a short period of
after supper cogitation, the
conversation drifted to the
tribulations and woes incident
to unadmired masculine exis-
tence. Someone suggested the
possibility of mutual console-
ment, at least, in the organiza-
tion of a "Down and Out" Club,
whereupon there arose a great
clamor for admission. The
charter members are: Geo. R.
Kelley, W. Mood Knowles,
Lowe L. Simons, James G. Har-
rell and Theodore A. Tunnell.
The membership will likely
be greatly accelerated just after
each Annex reception.
Also, an occasional imitation
may come about as the result of
an unsuccessful course in Hal-
lology. However, any candi-
date will be forced to furnish
evidence of his eligibility to
membership.

circle of the home is broken
again, and here she reigned su-

Tuesday appointed Rhea Starnes
to succeed his father, the late
W. T. Starnes, as Justice of the
Peace for Precinct No. 1 of Wil-
liamson county, which includes
Georgetown, Berry's Creek and
Jonah. Rhea is young, only 23
years old, but his friends are
confident he will be found com-
petent to fulfill all the duties of
the position. He is a graduate
of the Southwestern University,
has had two years' experience
as Principal of a public school
and had commenced the study
of law at the State University,
which he is compelled to aban-
don because of the necessity of
looking after the family. He
is perhaps the youngest Justice
