SUNDAY IS MOTHER S DAY.
Of all our (pecial day* et aside for olmerv-
ance, none haj quite the appeal of Mother'«
Day to every one in America.
Special Mother'i Day «ervicr will l><* held
at the churches . . . and children will come from
far and near ... if potiihle ... to be with
mother on this day.
FLOWERS AUK HKAl Til". I, in Albany f<
Mother's Day and the many other May p<-< ial oc-
casions. We can not remember seeing flowers more
beautiful and more plentiful than they are tlii
spring.
We hope Albany can keep these pretty yards and
flower gardens blooming through June . . . and the
Fort Griffin Fandangle, when thousands of visitors
will be here to see the great outdoor show.
And we should keep the weeds down and the Ira. h
fleaned up for May and June aetivitie
One of Albany'.- greatest a et . i- the fait that
passers-by report it is one of the cleanest looking
towns they pass through.
CONTROL!.1N(, WEEDS in wheat fields is
being attempted here and at Moran. At inter
vala, wheat field* are infeated by thUtlet and
>unflower> to tuch an extent that the crop it
badly damaged. Thi year a number of people
are (praying their infetled field* with 2,4-D, a
solution of acid that kill* broad-leafed plant*
but doe* not damage the gra**e* and wheat.
We went out to the Blach ranch Sunday af-
ternoon to *ee Bob Chi*holm of Seymour *pray
•everal hundred acre* of wheat, belonging to
Franci* and Raymond Taylor. The plane did
the job in juat a few minute*.
Monday afternoon we went back out and
found the aunflowera curling up and apparent-
ly dying. Other weeda were already laying on
the ground.
If thia method can be u ed to control the
weeda and not damage the grain, it will be a
wonderful blea*ing for the rancher* and farm-
er*.
Some are tpraying with tractor driven spray
equipment. I. M. Chi*m and Walter Humber,
with the aid of County Agent W. C. Vine., built
a *pray which i* being drawn by a tractor.
More than a thousand acres of wheat has
been sprayed, or will be sprayed ibis week. Al-
ter this year, the wheat men will know the
value of spraying with 2,4-D.
