VOTE "FOR" ON AUGUST 7
from civic and community pride, many San
Antonio and Bexar county Negroes have a very
personal involvement in the propositions to be voted
on August 7, designed to solve the county's flood
problems.
Negro property owners and residents of west
side areas, and certain sections of the east side, suf-
fer with every flood. These certain properties are
hard hit. Often, the fruits of a lifetime of toil and
sacrifice are washed away with one flash flood, last-
ing, figuratively speaking, only moments.
There i re physical injuries, and DEATH itself.
Neg oe* h .ve be?n among the til lives lost in local
flood* sirce 1921.
The property damage has been in the millions.
Misery has been great.
No p. ice tag can be placed on the agony of a
family, in having, or seeing, destroyed, all of its
worldly possessions, accumulated by a lifetime of
work and sacrificial effort.
In urance against this heartbreaking tragedy is
offered in the two propositions to be voted on Sat-
urday, a plan to solve the county's flood problems.
The flood control plan calls for voter approval
of two propositions:
1. Re-allocation of an existing 15-cent tax, now
used for farm-to-market roads, from that purpose to
flood control.
2. Levy of a new 15-cent tax to finance county
faim-to-market road operations in lieu of the 15-cent
tax that is to be re-allocated to flood controL
Also, the plan calls for five cents of the existing
county general tax levy to lie used for flood control.
Certainly, as it has been repeatedly underscored,
this is the cheapest flood insurance that money can
possibly buy.
Every qualified voter Is urged to go to the polls,
Saturday, and VOTE "FOR" both propositions.
