Perhaps you have read it in
other Unit Rep's columns. To
date, I have not mentioned it.
This Rep and column writer is
also looking for a back up Rep.
This proposal has come down
from the higher ups. If there are
any takers, please let me know
or our Exec. Sec., George Moss.
A very light mail indeed this
month. Jim Johnson (Div Arty)
sends dues, booster and this brief
note: Think you're not getting
old? My Grand Daughter is gett-
ing married in November, and
you fought in the same war I
did! Jim lives in Dearborn, Mich.
From Patchogue, New York
(the town where I grew up and
lived in for many years) comes
dues, a booster and no news from
an old neighborhood friend of
mine, Cliff Smith (Hq/CCB).
I had an occasion to talk with
Bernard Mezey (152nd Unit Rep)
during the past month when I re-
turned a telephone call to Calif-
ornia regarding association busi-

Here's an interesting bit of
nostalgia for the baseball buffs
who read the column. I recently
came across an old issue of the
Los Angeles Times, bylined Sat-
urday Morning, September 10,
1932. In the sports section, I found
an item where our own Jimmie
Reese (Hq/SSO), who at that
time was then playing with the
St. Louis Cardinals and playing
the Philadelphia Phillies in the
Phillies old baseball park. The
article reads: Hurst's scratch
single off Reese's glove in the
twelfth inning scored G. Davis
from second base and gave the
Phillies a 3-to-2 victory over St.
Louis today. Jimmie played
second base and had quite a day.
According to the box score, Jim-
mie batted third in the lineup
behind Joe (Ducky) Medwick,
went to bat 5 times and collected
a double and a single. He was
flawless in the field making 5
putouts, throwing 6 base runners
out, was the pivot man in a
snappy double play and committ-
ed no errors. Also playing along-
side of Jimmie that day was
"Pepper" Martin and "Rip" Col-
lins. So that has to make Jimmie
one of the earlier members of
that St. Louis Cardinal's famous
"Gas House Gang".
That's all for this time. Hope
next month there will be more.
