Dear Mr. Feezel:
I was extremely disappointed to read your "message" in the May
issue and saddened to conclude that you are using your tenure as
President to promote the Bush-Cheney-conservative-rightwing party
You have obviously bought wholesale the Carl Rove orchestra-
ted fiction which equates any criticism of George W. Bush as
amounting to lack of support for our troops. Nothing could be
further from the truth and you should be ashamed of yourself for
repeating and promoting an un-American and silly falsehood that
equates criticism of the President as being tantamount to a lack of
support for American forces in Iraq.
The fact is that this President has squandered the sympathy and
support of most of the countries of the world on an unnecessary
war that was ill-advised, ill-planned and based upon an assumption
that was completely false. He is squandering America's goodwill,
fortune and the lives of our precious young men and women need-
lessly. Do not presume to speak for me and the thousands of other
12th Armored veterans and their families who plan to vote for John
Kerry this November and do not use your office as a soapbox for
misguided political rhetoric. I challenge you to publish this letter in
the next Hellcat News along with your apology.
A. Newton Dilley
Dear Mr Dilley:
I do thank you for your effort to complain. I suspect there is jus-
tification, especially in light of severe events that unfolded between
the time I wrote and circulation occurred. However, I believe I now
know your political position better than you know mine. I have not
committed as you seem to have. And I, like you, do not appreciate
the loss of our finest young people. And obviously some there are
not our finest. I could produce witnesses who heard me propose
(and I did so to Bush), with failure of even Germany to join the
cause; Do not go. bring the bovs home and strengthen our defenses!
Then, as yet still my point and position is: we need to show support
and resolve to our men and to world stability and justice. Internal
strife only weakens us and aids the enemy.
Read me again. I said speak at the voter booth. I am truly sorry
our only alternative is a man who has a proven record of unrelia-
bility. Apologize, no! I did not propose anything but serious per-
sonal concern and participation, the American way.
Dear Mr. Feezel:
Thank you for your response dated May 22.1 conclude that you
misunderstood my criticism of your column. I respect your right to
your opinion and your right to express it. However, my criticism
was that you should not use your office as President to promote
your personal political viewpoint. Secondly, you are wrong in
thinking that criticism of George W. Bush and his erroneous and
failed foreign policy somehow manifests a lack of support for our
troops. Nothing could be further from the truth and I resent the
implication, promoted by the Bush political spinmeisters that
criticism of Bush is unpatriotic. On the contrary, I would argue that
criticism of George W. Bush is a voice of support for the troops
and against the policies that put them in harm's way.
I should add that I completely disagree with your reference to
John Kerry as having a "proven record of unreliability." That is
exactly what those same political spinmeisters would have you
believe and I regret that you are a victim of the $200 million ad
campaign of misinformation specifically designed for that purpose.
Leaving aside all other considerations, the very fact that John Kerry
Here’s what’s next.
