HEADS UP
It is that time of year again. The Association has made provisions
for sending your Hellcat News by first class mail. This is a way to
assure you get yours in good time every time. If you are one who
moves twice a year, this is especially advantageous. You need only
notify your post office and they will forward. All we need is your
permanent address and when you notify the post office, they do the
rest. The cost to you is $10.00 in addition to your dues. You get
better postal service and besides - it makes this job just a bit easier.

Most likely, every Hellcat has, during the past years, wondered
about the whereabouts of some "lost" buddy. Different methods to
locate these missing ones have been carried out by the Association,
unit reps, and individuals, but a unique effort was employed
recently by a field artillery man in the 493rd.
Louis Lapinski was traveling eastward through Pennsylvania in
August when a town's sign looked familiar to him. Louis associated
that town with his buddy, Paul Miller; so he went into the news-
paper office and bought an ad seeking information about Paul.
A week later, when Louie was back home in Fort Worth, TX, he
received a long letter from a Miller family member giving him
extensive information about Paul including, unfortunately, the fact
that Paul h ad died 20 years earlier. The writer passed on details
concerning Paul's education after his wartime service, his work
experience, his marriage, his children, and his volunteer service with
a local baseball team. Also he explained that sometime the cousin
was referred to as Paul, and other times as Russ (a fact that made
him even more difficult to locate).
As a follow-up, Louie telephoned the widow and had a satisfying
conversation with her in Kutztown, PA, where she now lives.
Hopefully, this account of Louie's efforts to locate one more 12th
AD men will spur other Hellcats to make another attempt to find
some missing buddy. Please accept as a reminder, the information
that the magazines of both the American Legion and the VFW
include space for individual searches.
May you all be blessed with a very happy Thanksgiving this
month in 1998.
