Letter From The President
Plaudits this month go to George
and June Moss for their fine ef-
fort in hosting the Mid-West Chap-
ter Reunion. Those of us that had
the privilege to attend this gather-
ing and enjoy the fellowship of our
many friends, came away far rich-
er. Food and drink were in abund-
ance all day and1 I believe there
was a door prize for each one in
attendance. There was a very ex-
pensive gift for the couple who
traveled the fartherest and that was
Ruth and I. We are in your debt.
Incidently George, I still don't see
tiow you did it all for such a
nominal fee.
Now for the bad news. I noticed
in the March issue of the Hellcat
News that there were Five Unit
Reps, that did not submit a col-
umn. I am sure that some of these
Reps, would have written a report
if they had something to write ab-
out. It is most difficult for some
of us to make it up as we go along.
These Reps, need your support,
they need to hear from you.
PLEASE WRITE YOUR REP.
If you are ever traveling through
Illinois and need a place to stay
for the night, try the Eheart's. We
did and we found the hospitality
-second to none. Thank you Tom
and Nola.

The column is due again; sorry
we missed you last time, we've had
some cold weather here and every-
thing goes wrong at the same time.
The wife is a candidate for the
Planning Board and this is how I
feel;
My brain won't think, my hand
won't write. Didn't get much
sleep last night.
I tried to read and couldn't see,
Oh woe is me, woe is me!
My head is thumpin, sinus I
guess, In other words, I'm just a
mess.
My back is achin, legs cramp too,
Think it's more old age than
it is the flu.
Eyes are bleary, got a wheeze.
Blow my nose and I hafta sneeze.
Got a stomach ache and I feel
plain bad. On top of that, I'm
kinda mad.
Cause the birds are singin, an
its a beauty day. Sun is shinin
so warm and gay.
An I'm a moaning wreck of hu-
man ills. Stuffed full of vitamins
and headache pills.
(Drink lots of liquids, get lots of
rest) Well, Doc., I'll do my best
When my column's done and we
are fed. And I get thru my "Day-
dirt" job I'll go to bed.
Get up tomorrow, do the same
thing over, An be as happy as a
hog in clover.
Cause you wonderful people keep
writin in. An to let you down
would be a sin.
So, tho I grumble, its pleasin to
see. All them letters from you
to me!
Robert Whitaker and Louis Hinds
are back with us again. Hinds says
he sure would like to hear from
some of you guys from (C) Co. If
any of you ever get in Illinois Betty
and I have a bar on R.97 near New
Salem. Stop in and have a drink
with us. The only guys we've seen
in the past 29 years are Kwiatek,
Vander Heyden, and Tippet.
Ernest Johnson writes, he would
enjoy hearing from my buddies in
the 82nd.
From Murray Davis; - Didn't hear
from The Leone's or Hendry's this
Christmas. The Hellcat news keeps
me well informed about the Medics.
Hope to be at the next Conven-
tion.
Ma Ross was sick Reunion time
so we couldn't attend. She had
surgery in July and remained in the
Hospital until October. Was home
for a month and had to return to
hospital again. Frank Jr. also had
an emergency appendix operation
■in August. Our Debi stood up for
my sisters son, Roy, when he got
married July 13. So that kept us
busy too. We are planning on com-
ing to the next one if things go
well so we can make it. We got
word too late to attend Harold's
funeral, we felt bad because Frank
had off that day. Frank is still with
International Harvester. Our Karen
■is a senior at Thornwood High, she
was a Commended Student in the
National Merit Society, also was
made an Illinois State Scholar and
is in the National Honor Society.
Debi is doing fine in her second
year in College and Frank Jr. is in
7th grade. Our best to you all. The
Frank Ross's.
Clayton and Margaret Davis write;
Come see us again next year and
stay longer.
From The Kwiatek's; Hope to see
you at the summer Reunion!
From Dana Mullen's and Family;
Always glad to hear from my fri-
ends in the 12th Armd. I read in
the Hellcat News about several of
my old Hq. Co. buddies, would like
to have their addresses to write
personally. I had to retire from
work two years ago. Maybe one of
these days I'll be able to attend a
Reunion. (Dana forgot to tell us
which addresses he would like.)
From the Roger Roy's; Roger was
sick in September and was out of

work for six weeks. Theresa had to
carry on at the store. Their eldest
son's wife gave birth to a 9 lb. 14
oz. boy before Christmas that
makes five grandchildren for them.
They don't feel much like grand-
parents when they have a child in
first grade. We're glad you had a
good Reunion last summer, we are
thinking of attending the Eastern
Chapter affair.
Was in Denver at Reunion time,
sure sorry to hear about John
Fuchs. I'm on the road a lot, but
thats where I make my money.
Theres been a lot of snow in Wis-
consin this year. Take care and I
hope we meet at the next Reunion.
In '75. My Best, Geo. Winters.
Sorry we had to miss the Minn-
eapolis session. All reports spell
out a fine Reunion, signed; Keith
and Vivian Sandberg.
Miss seeing you at the Reunions.
Will plan on getting together with
Fred and Rita somewhere in Pa.
so we can talk over old times,
signed John and Louise Vitola.
I was reading over some letters
from John Fuchs. In one he says,
do you remember Major Hooper?
He was our Mess Officer also our
Dentist! He was a pest around the
Mess truck and Wedder was going
to stop cooking. He had a real fear
of snakes so when we were in the
field we killed a snake and tied a
long string on it. We had a ladder
on the back of the mess truck so
you could get into the truck. We
laid the snake under the ladder
and Ed. Kaminski was on the other
end of the string. The next time
Hoop started up the ladder to get
in the Mess truck, Ed yanked the
string and I yelled look a snake.
Hoop took off through the brush
like it wasn't there. Hoop never
bothered my cooks again. Is Hoop-
er a member? (Does any of you
guys know the whereabouts of
Major Hooper?) If so, send us his
address and we'll write to him. We
miss John he wrote to us often.
In his last letter before the Re-
union he said in three more years
I can hang up my broom. Don't
know if I'll like it or not as I al-
ways want to be doing something.
While I'm in a writing mood I think
I'll write to Kaminski and Caravelli
and some of my other buddies.
We heard from Carol Fuchs;
things are getting back to normal
now, I'm sure glad we got to be
with all of you in Minneapolis. We
had the best time there. I'd like to
do it all over again. (So would we
Carol.)
We leave you with this perspect-
ive for life; Looking forward, all for
nought, Never will be gained just
what is saught. Should wishes
come true they are dearly bought,
Cause time spent dreaming can
ne'er be caught.
Looking backward is ever so
sweet. Each trial than seems an
easy feat. Can it be right to tread
past's street, When the important
present is here to Meet?
Ignore The future and forget the
past. Just pretend each minute will
be the last. Fill life with joy and
knowledge vast, For time is passing
much to fast.
