Barbecue at Moran.
The Barbecue at Moran was
given under the auspices of the
Woodmen and Farmers Union.
There was quite a number of
people under the impression
that it was to be a Masonic
picnic as it was pulled off on
the 24th of June. The crowd
was estimated all the way from
5 to 8 hundred people. We
don't think that we have ever
seen a gathering of people who
seemed to enjoy themselves
like they did on this occasion,
it seemed like every one was
out to have a good time, and
the committee and also the
citizens did everything in their
power to entertain the visitors
and to see that they were pro-
vided for. The beef was bar-
becued and the good ladies
furnished the bread, cake, pies
and pickles, and it was one
among the nicest picnic dinners
that it has been our pleasure
to partake of, and it was nicely
served. If anyone went away
hungry, it was their own fault.
Mr. Whitehead was there with
his new swing, and Will Town-
send and Buck Komor furnish-
ed the soda pop, lemonade and
ice cream. In the afternoon
there was a joint discussion
between the candidates for
Representative. The discuss-
ion was opened by Mr. Maddox
followed by Mr. Webb and the
discussion was closed by Mr.
Gibbs. There was a tourna-
ment ride in the evening, and
Will Melton captured the
prize. W. H. Pritchard was
master of ceremonies. R. H.
Cole was marshal of the day.
Marc Ward was general over-
seer. Johnson Walker, W. Gr.
Muston, Pink Huskey, N. W.
Nunn and John Wilson were
the committee on arrangement,
and we feel assured that these
gentlemen have the thanks of
the entire crowd for the able
manner in which everything
was carried out.
Mrs. E. M. Conrad has re-
turned from Ft. Worth.
Prof. A. C. Wike and Hugh
Ezell returned from a ten days
trip to Throckmorton last
week.
Some people think it's only
a breakfast job to edit a paper
—they ought to try their hand
at it once. The durnest fool
in the world can tell you just
how it ought to be done.
